So...for all of us OTTers, YouTube TV looks like it will have all of Fox, FS1, FS2, and CBS Sports. Other than possibly regional fox networks, you wouldn't miss a Big East game all year!
And with the sports focused channel listing, you can catch most NCAA BBall games period. w00t

19 out of 40 channels are news / sports oriented, though. Lacking a lot of the basics, like HGTV and A&E, etc. Even CNN.

IT isn't coming out for a few weeks/months so the lineup isn't set in stone. I expect tbs/tnt/amc to be on this since they are on every single cable over internet packages.

Yes...but you can sign up for Sling or PS Vue for March. That's the great thing about all these. NO CONTRACTS!

I was really liking Vue, but annoyed that I've had to "stream" the games on CBS Sports.
Dilemma - keep Vue and go to bars to watch CBS Sports or move to YouTubeTV and stay home.

I don't recall ever having to authenticate. But perhaps it's because I have cookies off or something.

Authenticating does happen occasionally. But only if you watch an absurd amount of it. IE for the first two days I have every game on, multiple tv's running with a few guys over. I hit the limit once and a while.

Hm, I've hit it all the time. Although I think all the CBS games are non-authenticated. TBS, TNT, and TruTV games require the authentication after a few hours of watching. Of course, I've always had a provider to authenticate with too - just mentioning that I actually had to do it!

If you're watching the tournament at work, like a lot of people do, most IT depts have dynamic IP addresses which would probably negate the need to authenticate. Watching from home is a different story, unless you are VPNing or doing something a little tricky like using Tor. Just a guess.

In case folks missed it - YouTube TV has added TBS, TNT, and TruTV in the past couple months (in addition to FS1, FS2, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SEC Network, CBSSN). So - it's now a decent platform for NCAA tournament. I only say "decent' because they have a 3 simultaneous stream limit. Though I can grab CBS over the air - so not really a problem.

Anyone have experience with this? I've been looking at switching for a few months when RCN jacked our bill, but was holding off until after March because of no TNT/TBS/Tru. Probably will still wait the extra two weeks, but it'd be nice to hear someone who has actually used it.

I switched to YouTube TV (from Playstation Vue) last September. I'm fortunate to have locked in the $35/mo price (now increased to $40 after adding the new channels), but it's working great. They've recently added Apple TV and Roku apps - but chromecast is a good option too (and cheap) if you don't have the others. No Fire TV support (probably because of the Google Amazon spat), but I guess you have to accept that.
So last night, I had 3 games going - one on my Roku TV, one from my phone cast to a monitor with chromecast, and another on my PC. Quality is good, and they vary bit rate based on your connection speed. When I'm on the road during MU games, I'll even stream directly on my phone (over LTE) with good results.
Only downside (for my wife) is no HGTV...
edit: I suppose I should mention the DVR - which works great.

Do they have multiple "tuners" (for lack of a better word)? If I'm watching multiple games at a time, I like to pause one while I watch the other for a bit, then catch up at commercials. Can I do that on YouTube TV?

He most likely has multiple sticks. IE 3 Amazon fires, or an amazon fire, a computer, and a laptop. He could also be split screening, not sure if youtube tvallows it. But ps vue offers 3 screens at once.

I've been using Youtube TV for some time now after trying out most of the major players (sling, vue, and hulu live). I'm very happy with youtube tv the channel selection is great (for me at least). They keep adding channels recently adding the turner networks, cnn, amc, mlb, nba. I have everything I want. All the local stations by me except wgn. Unlimited DVR and the best user interface out of the ones I've tried. Don't miss regular cable at all. And yes you can have three devices simultaneously in use at once on different programming. We use an Nvidia Shield TV as our main setup and have a chromecast on one TV and is also works on Xbox. One of the things I like most is it's a google product and learns your use patterns so often times on the home screen it is recommending programming that I would actually like to watch.

Just tried it out on the mobile app. It does not work. As soon as you start watching another live program it stops "holding" the live program you had just paused. Hope that answers your question. If you happened to be recording both live programs I think it would handle it differently but I would have to test that out.

Really?, the mobile app (I'm assuming he was on the mobile app in the hospital) seems to me to be the most polished. However the TV app looks and works more like a traditional "cable box" experience.

This is a good question - I've not tried it. As mentioned, I usually just have multiple screens going...so if there's 3 games on - I can have one going on the TV, another on my laptop, and a 3rd on my phone. No need to switch back and forth!
But I believe if you set all three to "record" (it is an unlimited DVR), and switch between them, then it will ask if you want to resume, or continue live.
On that note though, I've been a little disappointed that they don't yet have options for picture-in-picture, or split-screening multiple channels. That would be a nice feature...that I expect will happen eventually.

With the prospect of no college sports .. and close to no pro sports .. hard to believe a 30% price increase.

This is so obtuse and greedy.
I just dropped Showtime since Billions was finished after 7 episodes and Homeland wrapped up. I was going to do that anyway.
They will lose some subscribers over this.
And here I finally thought I could keep a provider a while without having to constantly re-assess monthly.
It’s still better than the alternatives out there for me right now.
They still don’t even have Pac 12 Network, NFL Network etc...

Unbundling saved me close to $1,000/year, so it is still "worth" it to me from that perspective, but I don't appreciate being asked to pay more for channels I don't want. Hope they get some blowback and reconsider.

I was okay with going up to 50 because I thought the selection was still great even though I didn't gain any channels. But going to 65 is to much.

Yet, looking at the weird plan and lack of networks on Sling or Hulu missing MLB Network and NBA TV and other major networks at $55 per month. YTTV is still the best at $65 per month. Most networks. Unlimited DVD space. Big one for my household, up to 3 streams at once.

For me it is still the best value, but for me all those additional channels are just bloat and certainly not worth the $180/year. YouTube TV was pretty streamlined, are they intended to go to 500 channels that no one watches like cable? Meh.

I use Youtube TV exclusively for sports, have no need for any of the other offerings. I'll probably still keep doing this even with the hiked up price. Trying to decide if I want to unsuspend for TBT and the rest of the NBA season.

Some of those other channels were already available with free access. For example, I already had the Comedy Central app on my tv, free. While it doesn't air shows live, they are available for free after airing.

If you have Comcast in your area, and have Roku enabled TVs, looking into streaming Comcast through the Roku app. No boxes, no nothing. Live TV, DVR...easy to use interface, and can easily bundle with internet. I get all the channels I need for sports, news, and the kids, plus 100 mbps internet. First year was $85/month for the bundle, 2nd year $95/month.

My wife and I discussed this last night. Given that we have no current live sports, nor really any new television shows at the moment, we decided to cancel YouTube TV and see how we do. I never watched Boston Legal when it was on and the app for IMBD TV provides that show. That is five seasons of content. I am sure there are a lot of other things we can watch as well without "live" tv. We are going to attempt to get along without it. We'll see... I did try to determine if we could get Spectrum or TDS but by the time you add in the equipment fees and other charges I should have just stuck with YouTube TV (although the difference now is negligible really).

I agree on those new channels. Yet, as a sports fan YouTube TV looks to still be the best. Fubo TV is something to keep an eye on. Tons of sports. Weird thing is they are missing the ESPN family of networks. I hear it will be coming. I'm sure Fubo TV will see a price hike.

I like the idea of YouTube TV for the season. I may switch to one of the $30 Sling packages for TV news NatGeo/Discovery-type stuff until the season starts, the restart YTTV in November.
That’s one cool thing about these streaming TV packages - the ability to suspend and restart without a fee.

The hard thing about these streaming services is how many is in the household. Three streams is a must for me. DVR service is huge for my wife, while it doesn't matter to me. Sling TV is odd. One plan is only one stream, while the other plan is three.

Always been a DTV guy but it’s expensive and I’m moving and kind of don’t want to get the house wired for DTV if it’s not already. I’ve always called and negotiated my DTV bill down, but ira getting harder. Also heard that DTV is getting phased out but not sure if that was just a rumor.
Switched to PSVue for a bit but then that went away shortly thereafter and haven’t considered a change again. But paying $200+ a month for fairly basic TV and internet is getting old AF.

Not really - though there's some work-arounds to make that happen - I think it's a chrome "location" extension that's been posted here a couple times. Never tried it.
Just put YTTV on hold today (well, officially Aug 9 for me) because of the price increase. If there's a hoops season I'll pick it up again. But if you're paying $200 for internet & TV you should be able to save at least $60 by switching to YTTV and any other internet service.

I live in MN and did NOT have access on YTTV to the handful of games that were on the regional networks.
Would have liked to see them, but I'm an old dude who remembers when there were like a dozen college BB games televised across the country all season, so I just went old school and lived without....

Gooooo....In Wisconsin, some of the games are carried by FSN....which is Minnesota's Fox Regional.
I would imagine that you would get games on that channel if I am.
Mr. Neilsen does a great job of showing which channel is carrying which game.

Correct. I get some games on FSN or FSN plus. But there were a few occasions when a game was on FS Wisconsin that neither of those channels carried. Typically, it was a conflict with the Timberwolves, Wild or Gophers.

Just dropped YTTV. Went back to Fubo, neither one carries Fox Sports WI, so for the same price I get a lot more futbol. ESPN is now included with Fubo too.
Being bilingual, I prefer watching the Spanish broadcasts for soccer, Fubo has more Spanish channel options too.

We dumped Comcast cable and it’s nearly $300 per month bill earlier this year — after 39 years as a Comcast customer. Went to YTTV down here in Florida.
Only thing I miss is MeTV, Decades and one or two old tv show channels.
Got almost every Marquette game I wanted and will have the NFL package in the fall. And, I get Chicago news on NBC5 and the “Lovely” Allison Crime Report.
What more could you want?

I'd imagine that this is exactly why they developed it and went with a limited rollout. I also got it without asking...not sure how they decided who they would test it on. I got an email saying I had been "selected for early access" and then it was just there. I'm guessing that this is their beta to prepare for Sunday Ticket.

For your old man channels, can you get an OTA antenna and get those stations? Eg. We get me tv on 27.2.

I don't watch on it. But when the game I'm watching goes to commercial, I hit the "back" button on my remote which takes me back to the multiview. I can then see which games are in commercial and which are live and got to one of the live games. Otherwise, I end up trying to switch to other games and they're also at commercial. I then typically return to the game I'm watching by hitting the down arrow and it'll be last channel viewed.

I set up 3 tvs in the living for the first two rounds, didn’t use it on my main tv but had on side tv to monitor things

I used multiview for about 5 minutes. It's eye candy.
Maybe OK on an 80" TV, perhaps.
I thought it was pretty well done - though surprised they didn't let you choose the channels for it (what if I wanted to watch baseball and 3 basketball games?). But I've got a 70" TV, and didn't use it much because I already had 3 TVs setup for viewing.

My biggest complaint about Sunday Ticket on DirecTV was I wanted the ability to pick which games I wanted to watch on the mix/multi-view channel. If YTTV is going to potentially fix that, it’d be a nice selling point.

I will be ditching YTTV IF mLB Network doesn’t return by the end of April.

For your old man channels, can you get an OTA antenna and get those stations? Eg. We get me tv on 27.2.
We're about 70 miles away, give or take, from the transmitter. An OTA antenna won't work very well.

I bought one for camping (yes, I'm that guy) that is supposed to be able to pull 250 miles. $50 or so.
