Agree that we're too low.  I believe that is because my view is through what this team will be in Feb/March not the first game of the season.

This ranking certainly puts that Belmont (#58) game into perspective.  The team is way too young to call the first game of the season a 'measuring post', but the Belmont game is going to be a great early measuring post for this team.

Be prepared to freak out about the endless possibilities or the infinite demise 11/13-TBD.

After Marquette, a big drop off to St. John's, DePaul, Seton Hall and Creighton.  St. John's in seventh place in the Big East is a ballsy pick this year.

I am not so sure about that. When you look at this roster it reeks of inexperience to someone not following the team very closely. Only MU fans know the potential.

I think Mullin will turn it around, but I think they're more likely to finish eleventh than seventh this year.

Let's face it, this ranking is based on little or no knowledge of the team.  No mention of Luke or Traci, for example, but mentions the positive impact expected from JJ. I hope JJ does well but will he even be a starter? I think not. Another worthless ranking article.

Before they edited it they still had Rowsey playing for Ashville.

Never understood why some of you fellas get so butthurt when some "journalist" ranks Marquette below their own opinion of the team.

I think lowered expectations by outsiders have always worked in our favor.

Things to keep in minded when reading articles like this.

1. They just attempted to rank 351 teams. They don't have time to read deep into each team.
2. They will rely sole on what the numbers tell them.
3. The numbers don't look good for Marquette. At all. (My personal ranking before seeing them in Italy was in the seventies)

This is what an objective analyst sees when they look at our roster:

Overall:
140 RPI, 110 KenPom, and losing record last season
Lost 53% of their offense from a bad team
Lost lead scorer (Carlino), lead rebounder (Anderson), lead assister (Derrick), lead stealer (Carlino), and top three point shooter (Carlino)
Have one true PG on the roster and he's a true freshman
Have only three players taller than 6"6 on the roster
Only have 10 scholarship players

Starters:
PG: Duane Wilson: Had a solid freshman year. Will need to learn to play point. Probably All Big East honorable mention at best.
SG: Haanif Cheatham: 4 star SG. Promising prospect. Probably can't expect more than 7-8 points per game.
SF: Jajuan Johnson: Undersized for the three. Can't shoot. Aggressive scorer. May make a jump this season.
PF: Henry Ellenson: 5 star PF. Legitimate talent. Maybe a one and one but probably not. Good but how good can a white kid from Rice Lake, WI really be? Needs to learn how to play against players who aren't 6"3 or shorter.
C: Luke Fischer: Solid starting C. Probably All Big East 2nd Team at best. Has no idea he was hampered by a shoulder injury last season.

Bench:
1: Sandy Cohen: Decent sixth man with an okay shot. Has no idea that he gained about 30 pounds of muscle.
2: Traci Carter: 3.5 star PG. Good prospect, probably can't expect much from him this season.
3: Matt Held: 3 star C. Needs two or three years before he's ready.
4. Wally Ellenson: Averaged less than 10 minutes a game for Minnesota. Will get minutes because of a short bench but adds no value.
5. Sacar Anim: 3 star SF. Needs two or three years before he's ready.
6. Maybe they have walk ones?

Now we know more about our roster. We know Luke was hampered by a shoulder injury. We know that Traci is ready to start from day 1. We know Henry is a legit one and done talent. We know Sacar was a hidden gem. We know Wally didn't get a fair run at Minnesota.

The ranking is more than fair. But I think we can still beat it.

Does this mean there will be a surprise addition to the conference this year?  :D

Agree with your last sentence. Not the first.
