Preseason Previews: Grambling State

Marquette Madness has come and gone. The season is so close, we can taste it. Marquette fans know who we will battle but might not know anything about our future opponents. To remedy this, Paint Touches is taking an in depth look at each of Marquette’s opponents, both conference and non-conference, to see what we […]

Bump

An interesting tidbit since this article was written. Grambling State has 8 new recruits this season. They have decided to redshirt 4 of them already, and their top recruit, JUCO wing Deonte Hearns, has yet to be cleared by the NCAA. Even if he is cleared this season he will possibly be redshirtted as well. The five redshirts are are probably five of the best players that Grambling has ever recruited (not a high bar). They seem to be purposefully sinking this season in hopes that next season and the season after are actually respectable. Probably not a bad strategy when you are widely considered the worst team in division 1.

They actually look to be better this year than in the past, which isn't saying much.

They are 2-5 but their only two wins came over non division 1 opponents. They have played East Carolina, Ohio State, Memphis, Louisiana Tech and UT Arlington. They have lost 2 of those games by more than 20 points (OSU and UTA) and all the rest have been somewhat competitive. This should be a big win for Marquette, but it looks like they actually could win some games this year and not be the worst team in the country, which is actually a step up for them.

FIFY. If this is considered a big win for MU, than we are in big trouble.

I believe he meant that MU should win big.
