Title: Al's Run 2015
Post by: mu_hilltopper on August 27, 2015, 10:40:13 PM
(http://www.firstgiving.com/images/UserImages/EGG/AlMcGuire%281%29.jpg)

It's that time again.

Al's Run (http://www.alsrun.com/) is right around the corner.   We neglected to do this last year .. but last time we ran a Al's Run Donation Drive, we hit nearly $5000 in donations from MU Basketball Fans.  Let's hit that again.

How?  Well, duh.  Heart string tugging.  You love Marquette Basketball, Al McGuire, and you remember those huge crowds outside McCormick, waiting for the race to begin.

And you've suckled at the teat that is MUScoop for NINE years.  All done through some serious effort by rocky, spiral, SoCal, and myself.

So do us a solid, and pony up a few bucks.  It all goes to a great cause, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.  Sure, some will pledge $25, $50, $500 .. but imagine if even half of MUScoopers gave $5 each.   Or $19.77, that's fine too.

So, click here, whip our your credit card and pay your respects to Al, Wojo, and Marquette:

I am once again doing Al's Run with my family in memory of my son Peter.  He would have been 3 this year.  But we received wonderful care and support during Peter's life at CHW.  Al's Run isn't just our way to give back, it's also our yearly birthday party for Peter.

Last year my team raised $2,852.75 with $500 coming from Scoopers.  Our two year team total is $5,395.47.  If anyone is interested in donating to my team:

Wonderful!  Thank you so much.  My wife was very moved last year that complete strangers donated to us.  I told her, that's the special bond of MU basketball fans.

Agreed and my wife did not get it until she lost her brother last August. She could not believe the nice notes that were sent after I posted about his death.

Thanks for posting and for setting this up. Only issue I had with this is I wish I could donate more.

For Peter, for Andy's sister, for all the people on this board and in the MU community that have had future Warriors at children's hospitals anywhere, and for the support my family has received from you guys/gals, I hope we blow well past the goal.

Anyone on a team I can join?  I want something on the back of my shirt this year, instead of nothing.

You can joint the official MU team.  That's the one I am on.  You can choose it when you register.

Good first couple days, but looks like we've stalled out at $744.  Sounds like a site-wide kick in the ass email is in order.

Kinda cool .. we're the #9th highest individual fundraiser.* (I wish it said MU BBall fans, but .. it's under my name.)

A few more days like this and we're in the top 3.

(As an aside, in past years, I've donated back the value of the gifts they give out.)

This is awesome - thanks to everyone that donated so far!  But you don't know hilltopper well enough, now he's just going to set a higher goal for us!

Now that Scoop reached its goal, how about funneling some more donations to my team?  Links are one the first page for myself and my team.  Or better yet, donate to Peter's younger brother at his link:

Bump.

Hello again everyone-

My son, Peter, would've been three this Thursday (September 10).  The Children's Hospital of WI provided Peter with wonderful care during his 18 days of life and provided me and my wife support and comfort in our most difficult time.  What better way to celebrate Peter's third birthday than making a tax deductible donation to the Children's Hospital of WI!  Please see the links below and strongly consider making a donation.

You probably already got the e-mail we sent - but if you didn't, we're down to the last few hours to donate!

Thanks!

Whoa .. the email generated a ton of new donations, and we blew through our goal.

THANK YOU!

Still a few hours before the walk, if you're reading this.

I'll post pics of the team at MU later today.

Indeed -  THANK YOU!

I'm always amazed by the generosity of 'Scoopers.  I know for most people this is not their only charitable giving, and many also donate some amounts via other friends and family for this event.  Regardless, Children's hospital of Wisconsin is a charity we're proud of supporting, and we're happy to make it our flagship (and only) fundraising campaign.

And....not that it matters (because it's all a good cause), but the MUScoop campaign (via hilltopper) is the 5th highest "individual" fundraiser.  So, whether or not you're not at the event today, give yourself a pat on the back!

Make that 4th place .. someone donated as we were doing the walk.

.. Found Coach Wojo and AD Bill Scholl and chatted with him for 3-4 minutes.  Very cool.  Team was there as usual, giving out slaps of 5 to the walkers.

For those who donated or walked in Al's Run .. here are some pics and a video for you as a thank you.
