Title: Davante Gardner, Juan Anderson, Chris Otule: Buzz's Bunch
Post by: #UnleashSean on August 02, 2015, 05:49:19 PM
Even though Buzz is no longer part of Marquette its nice to see all three players still show support to the program they worked with for years.

Pretty soon what he left behind at MU will be all he has to hang onto.

Idk you can probably lose for a long time at VTech without getting canned.

Agreed.  Buzz's Bunch was a wonderful way for MU basketball under Buzz to give back.  I'm sure that it is missed.  Now that Blacksburg is the beneficiary, its great to see those guys still supporting it, and bringing a great experience to kids who can really use it.

Buzz will do fine at VT.  He works his butt off.  He has a history of raising the recruiting level at his school.  And he has an ability to exceed expectations for the talent he has.  He's too quirky to get in on the top recruits that everybody wants, but he has a good eye for finding the kids who will respond well to his personality.  Despite MU's history with embracing quirky coaches, Buzz's way of running a program was wearing on MU.  Buzz saw the writing on the wall and had the good sense to leave to the eventual benefit of both parties.  It's all good.

Does he?

Are those the 30% who actually stayed at Marquette or the 70% who left for a range of reasons? (some left before they attended their first class!)

I'm working under the assumptions that Marquette's transfer rate was comparable to other schools and that Buzz was pretty damn quirky, making achieving assumption #1 impressive.  I think after a two hour lecture featuring sand and rocks in a bottle with a payoff off dumping the bottle over and saying "character revealed!", I'd have been wondering what the heck I'd signed up for.  As the results he got indicate, those who stayed bought in.  And as the subject of this thread shows most are still loyal after graduation.

Quirky is a kind way of putting but we need to give him his due. He took over from from Tan Tommy and in a short time he had us going pretty far in the NCAA. He also found and developed Jimmy Butler and Jae Crowder. He made MU winners but the negatives were impossible to accept so he is rightfully gone.  Now we need to look forward and now we need to expect more from Wojo who appears not to have the baggage. Now if he can win like Buzz or better the adm. has succeeded.

Don't forget the great improvement Wes Matthews had under Buzz.
