Title: What Second (or Third) Tier Sport Are You A Fan Of?
Post by: Tugg Speedman on July 04, 2015, 06:24:11 AM
Houwarrior post about the most watchable/unwatchable sport got me thinking ... What second or third tier sport are you a fan of (you can define this)?

What inspired me to ask now is it is 6am Saturday morning and I got up early to switch between Wimbeldon and the beginning of the Tour de France.

So in addition to Tennis and Cycling, I'm also a fan or track and many endurance sports.

How about you?

I really enjoy going to watch the local Midwest League (A ball) team play.    Getting more into soccer.  Have watched and enjoyed some high school lacrosse.   My daughter participated in some equestrian events over the years.

Cycling and Soccer.

Other than MU hoops, Le Tour is my favorite sporting event every year, and I enjoy the world cup every four years far more than the olympics.

Probably both still considered second tier in the US, but first tier in much of the world....

I did watch today's riveting contest.  The presentation made it even more absurd than I expected it to be.

I don't follow it as much now, but I used to go to Duke Roufus' gym when I was in Milwaukee and that got me into MMA. Being able to spot certain techniques and strategies makes it much more interesting, in my opinion.

I dont consider soccer as a second or third tier sport.  That said, curling all the way.  I actually curled when I lived in the DC area for 3 years, so much fun.

Horse Racing and Australian Rules Football.

Also, Cricket during the world t20s.

God, I love ESPN3.

(Edit: Though, now that I don't have an infant to feed at 3:00 a.m., I don't get my fill of second tier sports as much as I used to.)

I find curlers in Germany to be much more fit than here in the US.  Too many Americans practice with 12 oz. curls, while the Germans use those big boots.

Almost forgot hurling; I was in country during the All-Ireland Seniors in 2003... had no clue who (or what) I was watching at the time, how score was being kept, etc., but I loved it as it seemed to be the perfect blend of hockey, baseball and football.  Due to my ancestral roots, I jumped on the Kerry bandwagon (still the only team to be undefeated in the finals).

Haven't kept up with it since streams are pretty rough (if you can even get them) and they're not on ESPN3.

Grew up playing that and it lead to me playing Lacrosse in high school.  It's super fun and Milwaukee actually has a big club if you ever wanted to try, or just to tail gate and watch.

In all seriousness... it boggles my mind as to how ludicrously popular soccer is, yet dodgeball isn't even a collegiate sport?  The latter would be much more exciting, and like the former, only requires a single ball.

Only requires a single ball?  Since when?

It only requires a single ball, i.e. you could play with more than one ball if you'd like.  Not so for soccer... one ball, max.

I feel the good old 'bet' can be a great sport.

One fun one from the MU days:
Challenge a guy to take a dump in his pants during class. Only requirement is that he must dump with 5 minutes or more left in class. Diapers are allowed.

Watching a guy sh1t in class and then seeing others' reactions from the ensuing wretched smell is well worth a lot of money. The sh1tter isn't always spotted.. if he's good, he'll look around with a disgusted grin just like everyone else.

Actually, adding a second ball on the soccer field could make things interesting.

Same goes for handball.  I've stumbled across some Euro league matches on BeIn Sport, and it is transfixing.

That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Lemme know what classroom that was so I n3v34 have to sit in there again.
