-Fine of $500 per contest played by ineligible students.
-The school must return to the NCAA all funds it has received to date through the former Big East Conference revenue sharing for -its appearances in the 2011, 2012 and 2013 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
-Suspension of the head basketball coach from the first nine conference games of 2015-16.
-Reduction of men’s basketball scholarships by three for the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years. If the school has already executed scholarship offers for the 2015-16 year, the school may begin the four-year penalty with the 2016-17 year.
-Reduction in the number of permissible off-campus recruiters from four to two during June 1, 2015 through May 31, 2017.

No tournament ban.

These are lame penalties that won't affect them.

NCAA kid gloves, again.

The scholarship penalty is pretty harsh

I don't think Boeheim fills more than 11 in most years.

And just wait for the appeal.

Tournament bans are the only real punishment,IMO.

So we went to the Final Four in 2013, ai'na?  And were back to back BE Champions to close out the history of the real BE.

Do they have any point guards or rebounding forwards coming in who they don't have scholarships for anymore that we can scoop up?

Tournament bans are useless. Those come down hardest on the ones who had nothing to do with the violations.

Loss of 3 schollies for 4 straight years is brutal.

It seems like Southerland shouldn't have played in the elite 8 game where he dropped 16pts.

Even better woulda been if he didn't play against IU, they lost, and we beat Crean to go to the final four. Ahhh, what ifs

Ehh.  Not really.  It gives you 10 scholarships each year.  That's more than enough to field a very competitive team.

What they should do is give a tournament ban beginning, say, 3 years down the road and anyone on the roster can transfer without restrictions and is eligible to play immediately elsewhere.  That way current players aren't affected (they can still go to the postseason and it gives them some time to find a better place if they want to go that route) but the program gets hurt because high level recruits who want to play in the NCAA Tournament aren't interested in going to Syracuse when they won't be allowed into the NCAA Tournament.

Make Boeheim donate every penny of the salary that he earned during those seasons. Best way to drive home a point, hit him in the pocketbook.

Knew you would be posting about your Cuse team.

Bottom Line:  they're cheaters and got caught.

bayheim's self imposed penalty was pretty close to the ncaa's-hey na?

It wouldn't surprise me if we saw some kids transfer out of Syracuse that haven't done much so far. Chinonso Obokoh and Ron Patterson barely play. If they were ushered on their way it would get the Orange down to 10 scholarships so they can start the penalty immediately while stripping some dead weight. It's also possible that Michael Gbinje would be eligible to leave as a graduate transfer, considering he had to sit out a year after transferring from Duke. Depends on academics. Not sure Boeheim would let a 12.8 ppg/5.0 rpg/3.5 apg kid leave before his senior year, but I could see him wanting to start the sanctions sooner rather than later.

If that did happen, I would love to see Wojo go after Gbinje. Wojo was at Duke with him and had nothing but fond words for the kid even when he transferred. Would help with our ball-handling needs and give us another proven scorer. Of all the potential grad transfer names out there, I'd have him up there with Nic Moore from SMU as the best possible available players in the country.

what about jimmy's wife's benefits to the men's b-ball program?  wouldn't they be considered impermissible "gifts" from a sports booster or just part of the recruiting process...or some after hours tutoring?   ;D

Yep.  We should know first hand since we self-impose a similar penalty most years for no reason whatsoever, and it does get pretty brutal.

The latter point can be debated, but the following is unequivocal:

"Marquette finished with the most conference wins in the Big East in 2011-12 and 2012-13."

I'm sure he would have many better options than what MU currently has to offer. I don't see many grad transfers lining up to come to play for a team who finished dead last in their conference.

I'm sure you were saying the same thing about a grad transfer who was coming to a team that was 17-15 and losing its 4 best players with a coach who had never coached a single game going into this season last year huh?  Or a top 5 recruit in the country?

Take off your MU blinders and look at things objectively. We are a doormat in our conference and although things look brighter, there are many unknowns. Many programs are in much better positions than we currently are and have to be more appealing to a grad transfer looking to play their final season.

In regard to HE, Wojo did a masterful job in getting his brother here and laying the foundation to land him. There is no way HE ends up at MU without his brother being here and him being from WI.

What am I? I can tell you that I'm not a creepy douche like you. It seems your whole life revolves around this board. I wouldn't be suprised in the least, that you hole up in your basement for 18 hours a day and read this board, candles lit while sitting in the dark with your Derrick jersey on. No real life friends Scoop Stalker, that's who you are.

It's OK...your friends will come back soon.
