Interesting list. You can see why jucos can get a bad rep

ETA: Just meant a few bad guys will hurt the reputation of others. I obviously know the backgrounds of J-butler and others who are good guys.

Can someone post the high school players to college NBA all-stars list?

Thanks

What this post illuminates is what an incredible job Buzz did.  The NBA is littered with thousands of high school to college players but only a few dozen jucos?  Maybe we should we hang a banner for Buzz's work.

Doesn't illustrate that at all in my opinion.

1.  Why weren't you critical of Crean when he signed JUCO's?  (Corollary:   Why did you not criticize all of the transfers under Crean?)
2.  What will you say if Wojo signs 2 JUCO guards this year?

+1. Buzz sent more JUCOs to the NBA in six years (Butler, Buycks, Crowder, DJO) than the guy with more contacts than Bausch and Lomb did total in 9.

Wow - a thread highlighting what a big deal it is for Jimmy to go from JUCO to the All-Star game turns into a Crean vs Buzz debate?  Really?

If Dawson got more PT last season, he'd be an NBA All-Star too!

Better?

And so would Derrick if he had started as a JUCO.

Progress toward completing the Scoop circle....

Imagine how good the Jucos could be if Wojo was here to have them practice FTs.

4 players in the NBA in 6 years, from any background, is an extremely impressive track record that can't be discounted. Add in Vander and that's 5 NBA players in 6 years. That's legit.

Add (unshackled) Wesley Mathews and Lazar to make 7.

True, but Crean can claim at least a hand in that too.

Here we go with the Buzz slurp. Yeah, Buzz sent JUCO's to the NBA. He also left the program in a shambles.
Just a huge Cowboy sham, whose time was up in Dodge, so he scurried out the open door. But some people cannot tell a scamster until they have already bought the pile of dung disguised as a pile of gold.

Kemp was a 1st round draft pick out of a JUCO after he left Kentucky, Malone was drafted by the ABA out of HS shortly before the merger, and Hawkins went to Iowa for a year before being expelled due to a very loose connection to a point shaving scandal and being officially barred from the NBA draft.

I think three of these guys have received their degree too.  (Buycks is the one I am not sure of.)

He played a few regular season games for the Lakers and Sixers.

2.  What will you say if Wojo signs 2 JUCO guards this year?

Is this for me?

Not sure, but I'll answer....in fact I've answered this at least 10 times over the years.

I'm not against JUCO's.  I'm against JUCO's comprising 40% of our active roster.  There is a time and need in a pinch or a special opportunity to have a JUCO player or players.  There are also different JUCO classifications in my mind.  1 one year JUCO is different than a 2 year....a kid that qualified but went JUCO is different than one who didn't qualify.

I've answered this time and time again here.  I think it isn't good to have kids come in repeatedly for only 2 years...it takes them the first year to get up to speed, then you have them for only one more year.  Less of an issue with a 3 year JUCO.  On the whole, I'd much rather have someone come in and stay 4 or 5 years, learn the system, learn the MU way, come along slowly.  That's my personal preference, but I'm not against JUCOs in a spot need.  If Wojo wants to go down that path, by all means do it.  I know WOJO isn't going to have 40% of our active roster as JUCOs, so it doesn't bother me one bit long term.

Actually, I asked high school to college to NBA all star game.  In other words,  the normal process.

Buzz leaving also means Hank will go to the NBA from Marquette...so I give Buzz credit for that one as well, since Hank was never coming to MU as long as Buzz was here.

I knew that the Kemp mention was iffy but I looked it up:

"Kemp decided to enroll at Kentucky. However, he left the team in November 1988 after he was accused of pawning two gold chains that had been reported stolen from his teammate Sean Sutton, the son of then Kentucky head coach Eddie Sutton. Sean Sutton did not press charges, but Kemp transferred to Trinity Valley Community College in Texas.[8] After a semester at TVCC, where he did not play, 19-year-old Shawn Kemp declared himself eligible for the 1989 NBA Draft."

So he WAS enrolled at a D1 school...
And he WAS enrolled at a JUCO...
But never played for either.

He's in some kind of gray area: never played but enrolled.

Buzz gets 1/2 negative credit for Kevon too. While its true that #5 wanted to leave MKE for college, it is also true that he didn't want to play for Bumstead.

So Doc, unless we could have figured out a way to move Marquette out of Milwaukee Looney wasn't coming. Makes the identity of our coach beside the point, aina?
