Title: Be safe out there
Post by: brewcity77 on December 22, 2014, 09:13:34 AM
I just wanted to let people know that the city is on alert in the wake of the Red Arrow Park shooting verdict. Officer Christopher Manney will not be charged. The city is quiet so far, but there is some worry that things could get out of hand. Anyone going to the game tonight, bear in mind that protesters did try to get inside the BC during a Bucks game a couple weeks ago.

The city has asked for volunteers from public safety employees in case extra staffing is required. Protesters have been peaceful so far, hopefully it stays that way today. If you are going out tonight, keep an eye on the news and make sure you are safe.

Also...really don't want to turn this into any political debate, but want people going to the game to be aware of what's going on, especially those that may not have been following this story in the news.

Awesome, got a work Christmas dinner at Tutto and then going to the MU game, this won't be fun at all.  Hopefully, announcing so early in the morning will keep things under control for the evening.  At least the announcement stuff was handled correctly.

Also, be prepared for potential traffic issues. The planned shutdown of I43 last Friday snarled all sorts of other roads up as well.

Anyone think there is legitimate reason not to go to the game tonight?  I tend to blow this type of stuff off as whatever it'll be fine, but apparently some people in the office want to go somewhere else completely different for dinner because of their concern....am I just out of touch?

At the moment, no. Things have been calm so far, and I am planning on going to the game myself. That said, you never know how people will react. Hopefully the holiday spirit quells some of the excitement.

I plan on going tonight, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to be tuned to the radio to gauge the potential for unrest. My main concern is not for violence, but for disruption of traffic by way of blocked streets. It could be a traffic nightmare.

I'd keep an eye on it. There's nothing happening now, but who knows if they'll wait until tonight.

I'd expect calm for now, at least until they get organized and it gets dark outside.  Once Sharpton and Jessie, etc, get to town, if that happens, it will draw hugh crowds.

Should this thread be moved to the main basketball board?

Is that expected?

Doubtful given the blow back given the events this weekend in NYC.

I guess the real question is, "safe from whom?"

Well since it appears that the police are escorting protesters around while they block city streets, it doesn't look like the police are posing much threat for now.

It always does. This weather is a blessing for the city.

Even with the bad weather, I was surprised to see zero protestors.  I would have taken the over on that bet all day yesterday.

On a side note, since when has the BC staff been so friendly?  Is that a new thing with the new Bucks owners?  I know the Bucks don't hire the BC staff, but I'm sure they have a lot of influence.
The BC employees were all smiles and welcoming and saying goodbye, etc, on the way out last night.  Extremely friendly.  Good to see.

I noticed that as well, for the last few games a guy greeting fans in northwest corner entrance was booming out welcome to the BMO harris bradley center, enjoy your stay or something like that.  Never noticed that ever happening before.  Was a nice touch.
