I think he doesn't have the confidence of the coaches

Probably harder for him to get going when there's literally no presence in the paint and he can't drive without getting tripled.

His mom passing might have something to do with it.

Let's talk about this more, as I was scratching my head around this Deonte's underwhelming start to the season.

With a team so short on bodies and size, I'm struggling to understand Deonte's lack of pt.  When we're struggling to score against NJIT, why would you not try and get him more involved in the offense?

We should not live in a world where Derrick Wilson takes more shot attempts than Deonte.

Let's not underestimate this. His mom passed a few days before practice began. He spent some time away from the team/basketball during that time and, with a new coaching staff in place, is likely a bit behind learning the new system as well as in terms of conditioning. On top of that, the young man is grieving the loss of the woman who raised him. Cut him some slack.

Deonte is 6'4.   He is being asked to play bigger.   He justifiably missed practice.   At his best last year, he was a volume scorer and an indifferent man defender who, if he didn't get the steal, gave up an easy basket.    On this team, he has to be a 2 way player and a strong rebounder.      He made a couple of really nice moves from the wide post last night, but looked lost on defense.  Even more than most.     Like everybody else, he needs to expand his game, learn how to play when the defense is looking for him, learn how to defend, and start to rebound in traffic.   But he gets a pass from me for a while, possibly the entire season.   He looks like his thoughts are elsewhere.   And I can't blame him.

I will say this: When Duane made that drive for the and-1, Deonte was up and going wild on the bench. He was extremely happy for his teammate, not pouting at all. It was very nice to see.

Sorry if my observation somehow spoiled your day.

I guess we should stick to Derrick-vs.-Dawson and is Biff or Bert a better name for our former coach.

Takes more than monitoring who is cheerleading and who is pouting on the bench to spoil my day.

I just happened to see it when the TV camera panned that way and I said to myself, "Cool." That's all. I thought I'd share with those who might not have seen it. I'm hardly obsessed by it. Jeesh.

I noticed the same thing. It was very encouraging. A kid can't fake that kind of enthusiasm. Deonte has a bright future, possibly as soon as this weekend .

I only went to one pro am game this year and all he did was shoot threes. He was not the same player that I fell in love with last year. The one that was a bull in the China shop who took it to the rim every time he could. He has shown a good three point shot this year, but is no longer a bull inside.

Could be a combination of things. He seems a bit lost on both ends of the floor.  He will come around.

^This.  On a team that has been horrible defensively, Deonte has possibly been the worst.  On many possessions he doesn't even seem to know where his man is.

Love the kid, hope he can turn it around.  Right now his defense, though, more than negates anything he can add at the offensive end.
