This is just fantastic. We've been "in on" a lot of really nice players over the years, only to come in second or third when only first place matters. I really hope that this is a tipping point.

Gabe was not going to play 3-guard or small fwd so it was 4/5 only for him.
Hard to ask a player to sit out a full year and then not look to play much in next couple of years. Better for player to transfer now and get into a new program asap where playing time will be available. That was the situation Gabe thought he was coming to here.
WOJO did not tell him to go. It was Gabe's choice and he feels it is the right choice for him, so best of luck to Gabe. Things can change in a few months and they have for MU basketball.

Luke F-JR C
4 star Freshman Center
5 star Freshman PF
Gabe would have been 5th man, in a rotation that will more than likely have >95% of the minutes taken by the four above for 1 year for sure and who knows after that.
PS Are recruiting for 2015 with additional schollie available. Charging hard now on a top 100 that has been associated with MU and STJ connection.

For a while now, Marquette has been considered the heavy favorite to land five-star forward Henry Ellenson. But being favored and closing a prospect are different things. Thursday morning, Ellenson shut the door on his recruitment.
Henry Ellenson is a mobile forward.
Steve Wojciechowski and his staff can celebrate now after their top target ended his recruitment.
Sources close to Ellenson's recruitment confirmed to Rivals.com that the 6-foot-9 combo forward from Rice Lake (Wisc.)High committed and he is clearly a huge addition to Marquette's 2015 recruting class.
Possibly under ranked at No. 17 nationally, Ellenson is as skilled on the offensive end as any player in the country. Considered a slow footed face up five man earlier in his high school years, he has totally transformed his game while developing into an elite level recruit.
Yes, Ellenson still loves to face the basket and shoot jumpers. Yes, he can be a quit trigger happy when it comes to his shot selection but it is hard to blame him. Ellenson has a well developed mid range game, scores with either hand on an assortment of jump hook and up and under moves in the post and he can shoot past the three point stripe.
However, the most significant developments with Ellenson's game are his ability to put the ball on the floor and his mobility. Ellenson can create for himself in the open court and is the rare big man that can utilize a ball screen like a guard. While others can jump higher, Ellenson is highly mobile, changes directions well and he can run very well.
What it all adds up to is a player who should be capable of making an instant impact in Milwaukee.
Now that Ellenson is in the fold, the Golden Eagles have put together a strong recruiting class in Wojciechowski's first year on the job. In addition to Ellenson, they hold commitments from four-star guards Haanif Cheatham and Nick Noskowiak plus Rivals150 big man Matt Heldt.

He's gonna be top 10-15 in the final RSCI I would imagine, thats pretty safely in McD AA territory. I wouldn't be hesitant even without the Duke connection, I would be SHOCKED if he wasnt.

Another successful scoop campaign.
We were the overwhelming leader for Henry all along and then people started messing with the mojo by changing their names.
I'm happy to report that I resisted peer pressure, stuck with plain ol' MU82, and now, despite all those fate-tempting name changes, Henry is a Warrior.
You may all start lining up to kiss my ring! ;D

Last I heard is that Brown didn't plan on committing until spring signing period anyways. That opens up a lot of time to gain ground for Marquette. I'm not saying it's likely, but we weren't even NEAR in the Ellenson sweeps until Wojo showed up, so stranger things have happened.

Marquette landed a huge verbal commitment on Thursday morning, as Henry Ellenson, the 4th ranked player in the ESPN 100, opted to stay close to home and play for the Golden Eagles instead of entertaining Michigan State or Kentucky. Here is a look at what Ellenson will bring to the Big East:
Thanks to his versatility, Henry Ellenson will be a problem for Marquette's opponents.
Why he committed: Marquette had two distinct advantages here. First and foremost, there's the presence of Wally Ellenson, Henry's older brother, who transferred from Minnesota earlier this summer. They also held an early commitment from Nick Noskowiak, Ellenson's close friend and AAU teammate with Playground Elite. First-year head coach Steve Wojciechowski continued to pull out all the stops, not only making it clear that Ellenson was his top priority, but also assuring him that he would have the freedom he desired to show his full offensive versatility as opposed to being locked solely in the post. Ultimately, Ellenson’s relationship with Wojciechowski and confidence in his plan for him was the deciding factor.
What he brings: Ellenson is a highly versatile four-man and major mismatch problem. He can score both in and around the paint as well as stretch opposing defenses to the perimeter. He lets his matchup dictate his point of attack. He will make open shots to the arc but can also face-up less mobile defenders and straight line drive. On the inside, he has a strong natural frame to hold off contact while simultaneously providing a valuable rebounding presence up front. Defensively, he is a solid position defender who may ultimately be able to check both frontcourt positions.
How he fits: Wojciechowski sold Ellenson on the fact that he would be given freedom to showcase his total game on the offensive end of the floor. The plan will include a variety of pro-style sets as well as the ball-screen style offense that we've seen from Duke in recent years, where Wojciechowski was most recently the associate head coach. Ellenson's versatility will make him especially difficult to contain in ball screen coverage, as he'll be equally capable of both pick-and-rolling as well as picking-and-popping.
Who he reminds us of: At his best, Ellenson has occasionally been compared to a poor man’s Dirk Nowitzki, and while there are some similarities in terms of the size, style and versatility, those comparisons are lofty for any high school senior. He can also be a cross between guys like Nick Collison and Ryan Anderson, two veteran NBA players who operated from the post and perimeter, respectively, with a high collective basketball IQ.
How the class is shaping up: Ellenson is the first five star prospect to commit to Wojciechowski, but he's also the key player Marquette was looking for after building a very strong class to date. Noskowiak is a true point guard who is both highly skilled and very cerebral, while fellow ESPN 100 prospect Haanif Cheatham is a versatile 6-foot-5 guard who is potentially capable of playing all three perimeter positions. Finally, Matt Heldt is a true center who will ultimately team with Ellenson along Marquette's front line. Collectively, this group not only provides the skill and versatility that Wojciechowski will need to transform Marquette's identity on the offensive end of the floor, but it also solidifies his commitment to keeping the best players from the state of Wisconsin close to home.

I have followed Marquette since I was a youngster in 1965 and don't remember feeling like this about a recruit since maybe Maurice Lucas or Earl Tatum. This one is something special.
I loved Al and our 1970s teams, but at the risk of being a jerk, it's time to move on. I had hoped the Hillbilly would help us move on. He got us close but not quite. If Wojo is who we think he is, he'll be retired up there with ole 77!

Hard to imagine that any coach could get off to a start like this... first recruiting class in his first head coaching job a Top 5 class in the nation?!? There's no way he can top that. He's definitely peaked. Look for Wojo to be at Northwestern in 2015-16 because, after all, he's a man of character.

There will be some that will carve statue figurines and put them next to their bed. Whatever. Cool to be excited, I'm certainly happy he is at MU. We were the overwhelming leader for Henry all along and then people started messing with the mojo by changing their names.
I'm happy to report that I resisted peer pressure, stuck with plain ol' MU82, and now, despite all those fate-tempting name changes, Henry is a Warrior.

Interesting that six months after all the uncertainty and concern by everyone after Buzz left and all the Shaka drama that we have ended up with a new young coach in Wojo that has certainly exceeded all of our expectations so far. No one could have expected Marquette to have the #3 recruiting class in the country 6 months later. I am very impressed.
I'm not sure and this may have been posted before, but is Henry the highest rated recruit for MU since Doc Rivers back in 1980?
If we end up with another 4 star recruit to fill Levin's spot, the '15-16 team (and '16-'17 if Henry stays) will be something really special to watch (especially since STJ will be the only senior in '15-'16).

Hey dgies9156--- Them were great years. Lived and died MU Basketball. Being up north MU was not very
popular. Although the game against Kentucky in Madison and the loss Purdue to Lucky Rick Mount got
MU lots of attention. Fell in love with MU basketball when I saw them play in 1966. Met Al twice and attended
a senior party. I had my WOJO WARRIOR T-SHIRT on all afternoon and will wear it in front of my Badger
coffee drinkers tomorrow.

You actually have a couple of errors though.
Todd Mayo shouldn't be listed at all because he isn't using a scholarship. Gabe Levin should be listed, even though he has already transferred, because he used one. Either way, you should have a 1 under scholarships available because only 12 scholarships have been used.

We can't really know how much Cal actually wanted Ellenson. He certainly recruited him hard, showed up at his events, offered him a scholly, set up a visit. Seemed to want him plenty.
Even Cal doesn't get EVERY recruit he really wants.

Just like McKay's we cannot use Levin's scholarship this year. However, we can use Mayo's, so the one spot we have left for next year could be used this year for a transfer.

TJ had other issues leading to that, but his scholies was still available. A better example is Brett Roseboro. He lost no eligibility.
