Title: National Marquette Day
Post by: Slim on September 15, 2014, 06:26:08 PM
Has the date been set for National Marquette Day 2015? We have a group of 30 - 40 from the class of '81 that wants to go to the game. I haven't found the date online. Thanks

Looking at the schedule and history, very safe bet it will be 2/21.

Why not 2/10?

The first home game of February?

It's usually been an afternoon game, methinks.

Yep.  Got confirmation from Advancement that it's February 21.  Game is on national TV, so it makes sense.

It's always a Saturday afternoon home game that's widely televised.  Whatever game fits that description and the 2/21 game definitely does.

MU Fan in CT, do you usually meet up somewhere for National Marquette Day?  I haven't ever participated in one of these and it sounds like it would be fun.

I'm in if we do a Southern CT event....I don't like to run with that Hartford crew.

Yes, I try to keep the game watching party central between New Haven & Hartford and usually book at Chicago Sam's Sports Bar & Grille (formerly Rookie's) in Cromwell.  It's right off Rt-9 (& I-91).  Plenty of parking and they give us plenty of TV's including one of the big TVs with volume.  The manager (might also be the owner) had family that attended Marquette.

Last year we got hit by a small snowstorm just before gametime and my family was the only one in attendance.  Usually get 15-20 people.

It's tricky.  "Technically" I believe the university sees Fairfield County as part of the Club of New York City, but I know they will drive to the event if it's conveniently located.  If I book in Hartford then I get no one living in New Haven or south.  If I book New Haven, then I get no one from Hartford or north.  And Bridgeport/Fairfield & south has a choice to train it to NYC or drive the 45+ minutes but stay in CT.

I've had an alum recommend a sports bar (in a hotel) in North Haven to me and another request a Buffalo Wild Wings in DT New Haven.   I'm always open to recommendations for a location change if I can bring new alums in.

Well, I'm in regardless of location.  I'd prefer not to go to Hartford, but any of your suggestions are fine with me.

Cromwell sounds good to me.

I'm sure both these guys have to run it by their wife.

I've been married to my MU sweetheart for almost 30 years.  No need to run it by her.  Depending on her mood, she'll either be happy to come with me or happy to be rid of me for an afternoon.  Either way, I'm good.

Zoom, that went right over my head.  I figured it was more of a whipped husband joke.

For CTWarrior & Frenn's L.D. - I was reading the most recent Connecticut Magazine this morning and it was their Best of Connecticut issue where they named Chicago Sam's Sports Bar & Grille best Sport's Bar in Connecticut.
