MU grad here, and I love the bball too, but occasionally I see some posts about MU in movies, etc., so I thought I would share. A bit obscure, but for those of you grads and fans who love MU grads like I do, well, you might find this interesting.
Two references to MU in old time radio. The first is from the old radio show Lux Radio Theatre. Marquette's Pat O'Brien played Knute Rockne in the famous motion picture. Lux would do a radio version of the movie ( consider it the 1940s answer to DVR). Anyway, at the end of the program they talk to the stars and Faye Wray (yes of King Kong fame) asks O'Brien about his football days at MU and an MU team that played Rockne teams. I know, I know for those of you under 90, this is likely a large non issue, but meh, thought it worth a listen for Old MU rah, rah.

Lots of references about Marquette in the news lately because of Jim Foley. I know a lot of people who knew Jim Foley at Marquette and to a person they all talk about him with nothing short of adoration. Everyone says he was a really great dude. RIP.

Don McNiel, a Marquette Grad, hosted the Don McNeil Breakfast Club on the radio from 40s thru the 60s. In fact when I was with the MU Chorus we were invited to sing on his radio program in Chicago in 1967. One of his trade marks on the show was to recite the Nursery rhyme "this little piggy". Of course we all know that the first little piggy went to Marquette. Corny, yes; but a Marquette mention. McNeil's Progarm the Breakfast Club was inducted into radio hall of fame for lifting the American spirit during the dark days of World War II. It was also my mom's favorite radio program that she listened to in morning in the late 40s and early 50s.

Bob Newhart Show, November 1976. Bob wants to go to the Loyola/Marquette basketball game. Emily is not interested but a Bob goes with his old college friend instead. Impressive that Bob chose MU over Suzanne Pleshette.

He didn't pick MU over Suzanne Pleshette. He picked Loyola over Suzanne Pleshette. In real life, Bob Newhart is a Loyola alum.

Yeah, I was fully aware that Bob, as I, is a Loyola alum. In the day, Bob and I both saw our share of MU/LU games. Difference is I didn't have the option of staying home with Suzanne.

While they were searching his luggage, they held up a Marquette t-shirt and the audience at the MU Theater roared it's approval. Movie was based on a true story and if you can find it, definitely worth seeing

Billy Hayes came to speak in the Varsity while I was a student. I was working for ASMU at the time. We invited him on a lark, and he didn't charge us a speakers fee. He totally packed the place.

My intensive research using the source of all knowledge (aka googled it) turned up nothing. Doesn't mean it didn't happen, just that it isn't in any episode titles, descriptions, or posts online.

There was a Marquette pennant hanging in Arnold's (but not for the entire series). That's about it.

A sweet memory of Fourex was one girl I dated who thought that was the size! Given my shortcomings, I assumed that she was not overly experienced.

Yes, I believe one of the main characters, John Clark, his daughter went to Marquette. The Character Jack Ryan is a Boston College grad and I think character Jack Ryan, Jr. might be too. I guess Tom Clancy has a thing for the Jesuit universities.

That was probably a Bob Newhart / Peter Bonerz thing.
Props to Bonerz. Saw him in Chili after a MU awards thing about 20 years ago. I think he threw crackers.

Yep. Season 5, episode 6. Everybody but Donna takes a visit to UW, while Donna's dad insists she go to Marquette instead.
