Another Nick recruit. Anyone thinking future coach?  Especially if he/we get Henry and Haanif.

Since Matt Ryan isn't listed among Wojo's targets by Mark Miller, I assume that Wojo's figured that he's ND bound.

That's pretty disappointing. Him and Nick N seem pretty tight and I thought we had a decent shot. I don't understand why any top recruit would go to ND for basketball. It's like you are signing yourself up for 4 seasons of mediocrity.

ND hasn't set the world on fire under Brey, but they've made their share of NCAA's.  They've just typically stunk when they got there.  But the body of work as a whole isn't bad, plus ND remains a brand name among universities, including athletics.

I don't think that is necessarily the case. I think Ryan is waiting to see which way the winds blow at Duke and UNC first. Those two withdrew their offers to him pending results of his surgery. If those two fall through I think we still have a shot at him. Notre Dame has been there for a while ; we got involved when Wojo appeared on the scene. Would be nice to get him out for an official .

Maybe that's true, but with the scholarships for 2015-16 quickly filling up and down to two now, naturally Wojo's scope in recruiting is going to get more and more narrow.

Plus, I don't see as many transfers, guys committing and/or signing, but never playing, etc.  I could be wrong on that, but I just think Wojo is bringing a whole different M.O. to the way a program is run.  I think he's going to stick firm to his commitments as much as he expects his recruits and players to stick firm to them.

Let Ryan's recruitment play out.

If he's cleared, he will finally get back on the court on the last week/end of the evaluation period. Things could change dramatically based on that week.

The reality is that we only have one open scholarship. We need to hold one for Ellenson. Wojo should just concentrate on the other three in the group for the other scholarship.

The thing that always worries me is if two others we have offers out to accept before the ones we really want do. Do we pull one of their offers to get the guys we really wanted? Or do you over sign and hope for a transfer to open a scholarship up?

Could see this becoming more of an issue in the future since they move to 4 year scholarships looks inevitable.

Marquette has 4 available scholarships for the 2015 class as Carlino, Derrick Wilson, Juan Anderson and Todd Mayo will be the seniors.  Wojo has 2 verbals from Noskowiak and Heldt, so they have 2 scholarships left.

Need a guard in this class if they land land Henry Ellenson as they would only have 1 to give for 2016 and only landed Cohen in the 2014 class.

Mark's track record predates Wojo; he was very accurate with his predictions on the 2014 class.  Predicted Cohen, Hill, Shayok, Pierce, Tory Miller and Cassell all correctly.  His only mistakes were on the ultimate landing spots for Looney and Reid Travis.

Would be pretty amazing to get Cheatam and Henry Ellenson committed and therefor all 2015 recruiting done...afraid Diamond Stone won't be coming to MU..yet if he were to commit...all good with oversigning by 1 anyway...

3/8 Marquette

1/8 Florida State
3/8 Schools Cheatham has already eliminated from his final 6.

I noticed that as well. Someone mentioned his official is early September? Doesn't happen to be Sep 5th does it? He tweeted something about that date as well.

Why I'm dissecting high schoolers tweets is absurd I know but I was just looking at the ppl Wojo follows on there and find a lot of it telling as to who our staff is recruiting.

+1 - Noticed that as well. Definitely a good sign.  Wojo lands Nick, Ellenson, and Cheatham, that would be a very, very nice first class...and go a long way toward pacifying any concerns people -myself included - had about him as a recruiter.

Remembering back to the start of Buzz's tenure, he was quite impressive right off the bat, as well.  With Wojo, though, its hard to see where the wheels could start to come off further down the road.  He seems less peculiar, more solid.

For what it's worth, he got two more Marquette picks on 247 in the past couple days.

Couldn't afford Sperry's when I was a poor college student.    So.....docksiders it is, though we are all talking about the same shoe style.   Which I wore without socks when it was below zero out.

Sperry top-sider, the once and current king of the boat shoe. Enormous re-birth in popularity starting with the second half of the aughts. Now just a boom amongst the youth. But in my undergrad days they didn't hit yet (02'-06') when I was wearing them. It was all birkenstocks and the like. Now it's seashells and balloons for that brand again.

Don't laugh, Sperry's are the evolving hot shoe trend on West Coast campuses.  Trends start on the Coasts and move inward. It took 31 years, but you were way before your time.

same here Tower. mine were LL Bean slip on mocs, no socks year round. I still do that but with more of a driving shoe now. I only wear socks with a suit. I used to not even do that, like at graduation from MU.

My rationale for no socks in the winter?  You, with socks, step in snow and your sock is drenched.  I, with no socks, do that, take my foot out if the shoe, dry it off and am more comfortable.

Sperry's are so much better in the summer, at least for those of us who live where 95 and humid is the norm.

If you need some comfy work shoes, I recommend Sperry's Oxfords. They're wonderful!

https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=sperry+saddle+oxford&tbm=shop

The monochromatic ones are quite nice.  For the others, all I can think of is "you're on lane six".

For sailing it is still Topsiders. Hate to say it but here in the PNW people wear Keens. Ugly as hell but the most versatile and comfortable platform out there. In the tech world they are de rigueur. I have Keens for every occasion but rock climbing and mountaineering.

Allen Edmonds makes a great shoe. Period. Back in my suit and tie period I kept 10 pairs of work shoes - 8 Allen Edmonds and 2 Church's. I let each pair breathe for two weeks before wearing them again. This was essential for living in the tropics and humid locales like Tokyo and Hong Kong.

But for boating, there was always just Sperry. In Brown. None of this two-tone 867 5309 nonsense. Brown Top-Siders. And being Scottish I wore no socks.

Just curious, why no head hair, but facial hair?

Facial hair was important should we have to interact with locals in both Iraq and A Stan. Men without facial hair in Islam are suspect. We were under relaxed grooming standards even when back in garrison.

The AF presents forces to the COCOM through the AEF rotation system but since AFSOC JTACs were a critical warfighting UTC TACP teams took turns being on a 72 hour deployment tether. Since you can't grow out a beard in 72 hours we were allowed to keep our facial hair at all times.

We were asked by the Commander of NAS Pensacola to brief some of their Navy units on the JTAC/TACP mission. So we reluctantly threw on our blues and headed over from Hurlburt Field. After the briefings we hit the Mini Mart on the Navy base.

Three of my enlisted ROMADs were outside in the parking lot as I was checking out and I watched as a Navy CPO came up to them and began ripping them a new one for having beards while being in Class A uniforms. I let this go on for a minute before I went up to the Navy Chief who was stunned to see an AF Lt Col who also had a beard. I explained "Relaxed Grooming Standards" to him but he was too nervous and confused for it to make any sense.

As we drove off he stared at us and had to be muttering, "gawddam Air Force..."

All my "dress shoes" are AE, purchased from the factory store in Port Washington.  Oldest pair is 23 years old, fully refurbished twice.  I prefer not to wear dress shoes, but when I do...

legs, what kind of shape were your shoes in when you went them in?

I have a pair that are pitted from salt.  Would love to send them back if the could save them.

Yea, sorry. The military jargon is an alphabet soup. Basically the guys in Joint Special Operations Command are allowed to keep beards because we might have to go over there on very short notice. JTACs, the guys who call in the air strikes, are critically undermanned so when we went back to the States we were allowed to keep the facial hair since there was a high probability of being combat tasked on short notice.

As a pilot, I always shaved the beard once I got back since I couldn't fly with it as you can't get an airtight seal on the oxygen mask. More importantly, though, the wife hated it and she made pretty clear the penalty for not shaving; after more than six months I would have crawled through molten lava so the beard came off before I hit the sheets. I almost always kept the 'stache though which was my own form of rebellion.

Pines Charter's Cheatham to announce college choice Sept. 5

Pembroke Pines Charter boys basketball standout Haanif Cheatham will take his final official visit to Marquette this weekend and announce his college choice next Friday.

Cheatham, a 6-foot-5, 175-pound senior rated the state’s fifth-best, and nation’s 31st best, shooting guard by ESPN.com, told the Sun Sentinel on Tuesday that his finalists are Marquette, Georgetown, Cal, Baylor, Florida State and Georgia. He will verbally commit at a ceremony at his school.

The athletic, left-handed swingman averaged 26.2 points, eight rebounds and 10 rebounds per game last season for Pines Charter as a first team All-Broward County selection last season.

He had some of his best performances against state ranked teams Blanche Ely (30 points, 11 rebounds, five assists), Boyd Anderson (24 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists) and McArthur (28 points, seven rebounds, five assists). He scored a season-high 35 against Flanagan.

Cheatham visited Cal this past weekend. Earlier this month, he participated for USA’s South roster in the Nike Global Challenge in Chicago. The event features the top high school players across the country playing against international competition.  Cheatham posted 15 points, four rebounds and four steals against China.

Wow, 18 rebounds per game!

Seriously, though, really impressive rebounding numbers for a guy his size. If he were on this year's team he might play the 4.

John Dawson, JaJuan Johnson, Juan Anderson, Davante Gardner, DJO, Jamail Jones, Jae Crowder, Jimmy Butler, Erik Williams, Joe Fulce all since the 2010-2011 season fit that bill.

Screw the weather the games are indoors anyways. Is a 15 degree day with a 3 inch pretty carpet of snow thorugh out the parks really much worse than a 110 degree 90% humidty day in southern CAL?

I think your takeaway should be an understanding that official visits are not a requirement of a guy committing. Happens all the time - guy commits without an official visit. Also not unusual for a guy to commit somewhere he hasn't officially visited despite having officially visited other schools.

Same with those who are into the weather thing.. happens all the time that guys play "in a different climate" than they are accustomed to.

I will admit to having spent time in many a watering hole in both Olongapo and Angeles City. A man could relax over an ice cold San Miguel, some baluts, and a platter of monkey meat while his comrades in arms found a different, more earthy form of comfort upstairs. The Marmont, Red Baron Lounge, Marilyn's Blow Heaven, Bamboo Grove, Nipa Hut, Fire and Empire Lounge, and Samurai Health Club all catered to a variety of voracious appetites from the mundane to the unspeakable. Victory in the Cold War was forged on the sizzling hot anvil of Luzon R&R.

legs, what kind of shape were your shoes in when you went them in?

I have a pair that are pitted from salt.  Would love to send them back if the could save them.

I didn't have the salt issue--they replaced leather on the inside that was torn, new soles/heals of course (which I have done a bunch of other times).  You can send them in for recrafting, and if they cannot fixed damaged leather uppers (scratches too deep etc or maybe your pitting issue), they will tell you and send them back.  And you wouldn't want to do it unless it would fix the shoes because it relatively expensive.

Screw the weather the games are indoors anyways. Is a 15 degree day with a 3 inch pretty carpet of snow thorugh out the parks really much worse than a 110 degree 90% humidty day in southern CAL?

There is a lot to hate about So Cal, I know my days here are short by design, but in all the years I've lived here 110 and 90% humidity has never happened.  The weather is one of the few things I'll miss....it is beautiful pretty much all the time.

The two, three weeks of winter are 50 degree hell. Other than that , the weather is pretty much 70 degrees in SD. Don't miss the LA congestion.

Nah, never said that. Just willin' to inspect the Samuri workplace Crash described.

Samurai likely never had a "Health Inspection" which, had I been single, likely would have still kept me in the bar and not upstairs in one of the "Treatment Rooms."

Doc, for the love of all that is Holy, an inspection by the discerning eye of a skilled health care practitioner of the Oral Arts is badly overdue. Your country needs you!

Dissecting an 18 year olds tweets is about as pointless as a g-rated porno

Bambi says, "Is there a reason they call you Thumper."

And Thumper says, "Why don't you bring your spindly legs over here and find out."

And then Bambi ...

You know what, TAMU, you're right!

San Miguel--now there is the beer of choice. Drank many in Manila and Hong Kong, but harder than hell to find in the US. And then there was Elsa Clariza, but that was  long time ago.

110 and 90% humidity? There is someone with no clue about weather.

It's relatively easy to find St. Mike's here on the west coast. Still, sipping an ice cold San Miguel in Bellevue, WA lacks the charm of swilling lukewarm Magoos in 90' heat in Marilyn's Blow Heaven.
