Title: Mike Deane thoughts
Post by: tower912 on April 19, 2014, 01:35:39 PM
Thinking about defensive rotations and freshmen getting pulled for giving up lay ups.....   If memory serves, back when Mike Deane was coaching and the MU scores were in the 40's, anytime a player gave up a basket, unless it was Hutchins or Wardle, that guy got taken out at the next dead ball.   I can recall Harris, and Abraham, and Shaw, and Nnamaka looking over to the bench after their guy scored, knowing what was coming next.

Of course, my favorite Mike Deane moment...Crawford gets hacked, no foul, but they make him come out of the game because the non-foul drew blood.     "If you didn't see the foul, then I don't see any blood."

Remember when Austin Croshere's manicure ripped down the length of Anthony Pieper's arm when PC dismantled MU in the 1st Rd of the NCAA?  Another non call.  Dean almost popped an eyeball.

The memory that defines my college career was leaving my seat at MSG to rush the court celebrating an MU NIT Championship, only to witness the loss as I came out of the tunnel.  Usher kicked me out and we lost a heartbreaker.

What I remember about Deane was when we would give up an early layup at like the 19:15 mark in the first half he would call a timeout.  Bizzare.

I agree.  Thought Mike D. was a helluva game coach.

he was indeed a good game coach, IMHO.  I feel he won more with less than his successors.

I think it's a desperate attempt to show that because Deane pulled people for single mistakes and played favorites, Brant was OK to do it, too.

I remember watching a practice where Deane repeatedly told Abraham to go over the ball screen on the low block in order to prevent Danny fortson (i think) from getting easy position. They went over it 100 times. First time Cinnci runs the play in the game he goes under the screen and fouls fortson on the layup. He never even looked at Deane and started walking to the end of the bench
