Title: Awards Banquet
Post by: warriorchick on April 15, 2014, 06:03:14 PM
Jsglow and I are here. Players all seem to be in a good mood.  Haven't seen Jamil but it's a little crowded. Coach doing a great job of working the crowd.

Ask Coach what the latest is with Ahmed Hill.

DG should be the projectile vomiter award for his SDSU game....I'd say about 3.5 feet in distance.

Start slapping the floor and yell out:   "LET'S GO WOJO !!!!   WOJO'S WARRIORS   LET'S GO!!!!!

That will get his attention and you're worth at least 5 minutes of his time after that.

Just talked to Dylan Flood. Jamil is already down in Portsmouth.

Just think – if it was Mike Deane, the line to speak with the coach would lead right to the bar.

Easily done with this season's highlights...er...lowlights.

He was pretty much in one area. Wasn't mixing it up with the players like he used to.

The season highlights easily could have just been incessant subbing and a defender sagging 10 feet off of Derrick.   Would have save a lot of editing time...

If you told me in October that the only team award Jamil would win would be the one for sportsmanship, I'd have told you we'd have a lousy season.

I never met him, but he seems to be a fine young man. Unfortunately, that did not translate into production on the court.

List of Buzz awards ditched:

One Shining Moment Award
Wesley Matthews "Just Today" Award
Lazar Hayward "Everyday Tough" Award
Rob Frozena "We Are Marquette" Award
Joseph Fulce "WDYL? 1%" Award
Jimmy Butler "Only Now Exists" Award
Darius Johnson-Odom "Sacrifice For The String" Award
Character Revealed Award

You got to give Buzz the award for creating awards, had he stayed another 5 years, the award cermeong would have been longer than the Oscars.

It would have been funny had they gave Buzz the "Character Revealed" award in absentia

But Lenny can perceive anything a as a slam to Buzz.

For the record, Buzz was not mentioned by name once last night.  Not by Wayne Larrivee, not by any of the players, and not by Jerry Wainwright.

The only indirect mention was by Wojo, who referred to him as "a former coach of yours".

Coach gave a great little speech after the awards were handed out. He told the story of how he first met Jerry as a 16-year-old prospect.  Jerry hosted Wojo when he visited Wake Forest, and hung out with him when his flight home was delayed for 8 hours.  Per Wojo, Jerry talked the entire time.

Jerry had the best joke of the night.  He was talking about Davante's weight and how hard he worked at reshaping his body this year.  Jerry said that when they broached the subject with him last summer, Davante countered by saying that heat causes things to expand.  "I'm not fat'" he said, "I'm just hot."

He also told a great joke about a talking frog, but I am demoting to second-funniest since I had heard it several times before from other people.

Whoa, pal, why so sensitive? I would have thought that a guy who so routinely insults others (recently calling posters here "dickheads, jackholes, whiny little bitches who exhibit complete stupidity and have no f'ing clue", etc.) would have a little thicker skin and could take a joke. Guess all the Polish jokes you had to endure as a little boy turned you into the humorless, angry guy you are today.

As for "slurping", I do not (unlike you) have any artwork autographed by our former coach. I've met him on several occasions but it never occurred to me to ask him for his signature - I left that sort of childish hero worshipping behind when I turned 8 or so. It doesn't look good on adults, as witnessed by your over the top reaction to Brent's departure.

So, what does one do with artwork autographed by a former coach.  I still have a framed midnight madness shirt signed by Crean hanging in my den/office at home.  Just too lazy to take it down, I guess, and now the sting of his leaving has passed, so maybe I should just keep it up.  Not knowing the proper protocol for this type of situation has resulted in inaction and procrastination that has changed to apathy and acceptance.  Maybe the four stages of grief associated with this type of matter.

Yeah, I guess making a sizable donation to the Blue and Gold fund is pretty childish. Hmm, might have already been signed by Buzz so I did noi have "chase him down"

Sorry to be have supporting MU Athletics with the purchase....

Last I heard the Blue and Gold fund was accepting "donations" that were really donations - not to be confused with a hero worshiping purchase that doubles as a tax write off - but by all means continue to pat yourself on the back for your generosity.

well, you actually have it wrong as far as a benefit to the auction purchaser...

A cash donation is 100% tax deductible...

An auction where a person receives an tangible item in return, only they amount paid above fair market value is tax deductible.

So as the individual, I receive less benefit as a tax write-off for my hero-worshiping than giving cash.

I believe Marquette benefits equally either way from cash or hero-worshiping purchases (as the item was donated to Marquette).

Oh, the horror of donating money by buying something Buzz related at an auction...

Correct.  I had to adjust that on my taxes this year for a few items purchased at auction in 2013.

Buzz bought some pretty valuable Al Mcguire-era memorabilia at the last Blue and Gold auction through a third-party bidder.  Let's just hope we find a way to get that stuff back into the family.

When Rich Rod was justifiably fired as the coach of the Maize and Blue he immediately started selling all of his Michigan-themed possessions on eBay. He didn't use a third party either - he wanted to make a statement. May he burn in the desert.

Not the right forum, but did not want to start a new one. Just curious if anyone knows if Wojo and his family have found a house in the area? If so, is he living in Mequon area like our two previous coaches or which suburb if he has found one yet? Thanks.

Nah. Better neighborhoods in South Milwaukee.  Actually, I think it would be cool if Wojo bought a restored Bay View lakefront home.

I agree.  And the commute would be much shorter than the trip down I-43

His spouse, a nurse, might prefer Wauwatosa, Elm Grove, etc. to be closer to the medical complex. Goose could give her a tour of his old grade school.

Bet my life he doesn't move to Bay View. He's a well paid college basketball coach not an artist or a chef.

Is Bay View the new Brady Street?

I played Industrial League baseball for Ludman Machine. If we had games in Bay View we would drink at Al's Big Beer Bar. Think of it as The Lanche Annex South.
