Why does it not surprise me that, with the way this season has gone, Fox Sports 1 is the only station on my TV that is not working right now.  Any other Waukesha County Time Warner Cable people have the problem?

Post by: chapman on March 13, 2014, 08:41:33 PM
Odd sub - Mayo at the point, Anderson and Taylor on the floor together.  Not a lineup that's been on the floor all year that I recall.

Liked what I saw from DWill - feeding Burton, most importantly not holding the ball, keeping it moving.

Deonte back in.    Good.   9 guys have an early sweat.    Mayo caught way inside in traffic on back to back 3's.   Along with 2 bad passes.    Ah, well.   He is a second half player, right?

He got a quick foul, probably to calm him down so he won't get in foul trouble.

The coach and his wife have the same name?  That's awkward.  Thankfully Buzz's first name isn't Cory, or his wife's Buzzy...er, Brenda.

At 4 minute mark with MU up 10 to 3, Buzz subbed 4 players.  Team was playing well and it's just confusing to sub 4 players.  Seems to be working for awhile.  X catching up now with open threes due to double team passes.

MU better watch out for foul trouble.

Should be an automatic flagrant foul there.  There was contact to the head after the whistle.  By the new rules that is an automatic flagrant 1.  Actually could be considered a flagrant 2 for excessive contact after the whistle.

Burton's picking his spots well too.  The one knack on offense is usually getting too eager to take it, has had very good judgment.

So far the extended minutes for Dawson at the point have been lackluster.  But let's see if the theory that Derrick will play better on both ends if he's not forced into maximum minutes holds true in the second half.

What did he try to fix, he has been running with the same offense and players during this bad stretch as he did at the start of the game.  Only difference is D. wilson is on the bench with foul trouble.

No he hasn't. He has taken Ox out on two occasions after buckets and waited for possessions to get him back in.

It should be Ox in the game at all time getting the ball and he inexplicably took him out twice at bad times.

How many layups has MU given up at the buzzer this year?  Jamil didn't even make an attempt to guard once Christian got passed Thomas.  So lame.  They do this all the time.
Title: Re: Xavier game thread

Todd looks terrible on both ends. Jamil not good. Christen can abuse any of our guards other than Derrick at will. Also looks like X has figured out that Deote is left handed. Todd just went to the hoop too soon. 11 seconds left for X

Christain has killed Derrick both games so far and derrick sat most of this one.

So uhh?

It was a good look...just because you are accustomed to seeing a PG who won't shoot the ball, doesn't mean it is a bad shot...kind of makes you need to be defended on the floor you know....if you'll shoot from three...

Dawson's play in the first half wasn't anything special in any way...same as what we've seen from Derrick all year long..

MUs offense is so predictable. JWilson is not engaged at all and they pass the ball around the perimeter the same
way every possession. I'd rather see DG take some midrange shots and our guards seem like they have no energy.

MU shooting 55%, XU is 42%, yet MU down.

Bad Jamil -  3 points
Bad Todd -   2 points on fts
Jake only 2 shots, 1 for 2.
Dwil/Dawson - well.......

Burton/Gardner - terrific

MU has 9 turnovers including Jamil's two seconds after winning tip.
Mayo can't dribble, who knows wtf?

Gardner missed frontend of one/one.

Jake just had his ankles broken by Christain.

Bottomline: turnovers killing them, Jamil and Todd must get it together, feed the Ox everytime.

Actually from what I saw...Juan should have been the help defender but didn't provide help in time...and Juan also is the guy who left Martin open for the 3 on the possession before.  Juan simply does not need to be on the floor at any point....

Defense is our problem, as I think I saw explained quantatively on another post recently. I missed a few minutes because I had to take a phone call but I recall at least 3 or 4 occasions when X shooters were described as "WIDE OPEN" in the first half. What else is new?
Title: Re: Xavier game thread
Post by: chapman on March 13, 2014, 09:31:15 PM
Jake had 17 and 18 in the first two games.  1-2 in the first half.

Time for Derrick to be the gamechanger as Buzz says: should be fresh enough to shut jameS down, and if he keeps the ball moving as well as he did in the first half the offense will be better for it, and it'll limit Mayos fumbles.

That last play showed the risk of defense only thinking.  Put in defensive stoppers. X gets a layup!!!   Wtf. Rock solid d there Juan,Chris!!!!

Juan was 10 feet off his guy providing help there...though for sure a kickout was coming for a wide open three.  Can't fault him for the shot inside falling.
Title: Re: Xavier game thread
Post by: Newsdreams on March 13, 2014, 09:31:25 PM
It wasn't that quick and he was wide open...maybe you just aren't used to a Marquette point guard shooting wide open 3's this year.
Was not the right time to do it, he is not our 3 point shooter and just came in. Not trying to put him down, he just does not look to comfortable out there as in previous games. Whatever, I'm not into the D. Will / Dawson debate.

yep, consistently underachieved this year.  tend to look good for stretches yet still end up on the short end on the score board far too many times.  Its only halftime and truly hope that they pull it out, but disappointed to be trailing at half when our surprise starter, beast, went off in the 1st half.  if mayo and jamil would contribute that would certainly help

Thing is, Dawson could have had that same look 20 seconds later into the shot clock.  It was not a good shot as he took it way too early in the shot clock.

So lots of Mayo and lots of Burton, a little less Derrick and we are on the losing end so far.  Interesting.  This season's disappointment has been primarily due to JWilson's very unproductive season more than anything else.  And this is exhibit A for the reason why Mayo is not a point guard.  Too many silly turnovers.

basic assist  ;)

After a full season, you are finally getting it jesmu84!   Was a nice steal and pass by Derrick...and he made real nice pass earlier to Burton underneath that Deonte blew...which would have qualified as a GREAT assist.   ;)

We didn't.  Rule is that they choose.

That's right. I forgot about the Kim English rule

I thought the opposing coach chooses the free throw shooter based on who is out on the floor.

They do...not sure if they can only choose from guy who is already on floor or any player on bench...if any player..including bench...amazing they picked Jamil...and not Juan, JJJ, Dawson...guys ice cold..but instead 5th year senior..

So there is a 1 in 5 chance that Burton's man will expose him on defense.  Since he is the only one who wants to shoot it on offense, why not have him in there?

Just an abysmal coaching job by Buzz this season.

I don't understand fouls.  The one against us on the last possession was the same type of play as Mayo's shot.  Reynold's shot FTs no call for Mayo's.

I'm not cheering for him to be hurt...I was thinking strategy because he's not a good ft shooter. I wouldn't cheer for any of our players to be hurt. Get off your high horse jerk

One of our players was lying in the floor in pain. You told him to stay down. You hope for nothing other than him to spring up healthy in that situation.

nothing scumbag about it. simple facts. derrick limping up the court was buzz's choice over playing dawson.

compare that to a guy being excited that derrick was injured.

He and his pink shoes were out there in the last few minutes...we brought him and DG in as a pair in one substitution for sure to get offense.  Clearly, he didn't play a lot in the last 10, but he did play some.

His last real minutes he gave up a late layup because he fell asleep.  Buzz was pissed enough to call a TO to yank him.
