Title: The 'Buzz haters' should be ashamed.
Post by: ErickJD08 on December 07, 2013, 02:57:31 PM
Can you please stop? You add nothing. Buzz has taken this team to S16,S16, E8 the last three years. Name another coach that has done that and then ask if they would quit their job to come here. We are playing a better team at their home without our better scorer and our gem of the class not playing. If you think Buzz is a bad coach because we are not cruising through this game, you're dumb and keep your Buzz is a bad coach comments to yourself.

Buzz is great at 5 - 4 this year.

I just hate who ever thinks its a brilliant idea to start a backcourt that scores 3 pts along with 2 other guys who can't shoot or score on their own.

We should be starting Smart and Parker in the backcourt but Buzz is making them ride the bench.

Mayo(when not suspended). Burton. JJJ. Ox should start immediately following the tip. Mis well give Dawson extended minutes.

What we are doing now is clearly NOT working. Why not give major minutes to other guys and see what happens? Worst case, we continue losing to all decent teams we play...seems to be enjoyed by people on here.

Burton and JJJ are starting to earn minutes. Mayo I will grant, but he's got to earn that and I'm not sure he has been. And why would anyone still be endorsing Dawson? The kid has literally done nothing. The only defense is the Ners "he played well versus Grambling" defense. And if you want to play that card, maybe I should be the starting point guard, because I'm pretty sure that I could have put up a double-double on Grambling.

Thought we played a better team on the road and lost.  Guys didn't give up, put a scare into them at the end.

Nothing has changed for me with this team since the beginning.  Guard play is suspect and college ball is first and foremost a guard's game.  Certainly the lineups are ripe for speculation, if we think there are guys that could be playing that aren't.  Buzz doesn't like to play freshmen, that is clear.  Mayo....what can you say.

They need to do a gutcheck or two in the coming weeks to decide what kind of season it will be.

Agreed Erick.  Hmmm, let me say this again.  We lost three starters and star player from last year.  Our talented players on the bench are still inexperienced.  I don't want Jamil playing the point all the time and there's no way Dawson does any better than Wilson. I love me some Burton and Johnson but they have plenty of lapses on D and forced shots on offense.  Missing Mayo and Duane today hurt.  Steve is a disappointment so far (injured too).

Granted the end of the game was closer than it seemingly should have been, but we had a chance.  Didn't crap the bed like vs. Ohio St. at home.  Fouls and rebounding hurt us today.  The badgers looked good and they have plenty of talented, experienced players at all positions.  We're spoiled as Marquette fans lately.  I don't think we played that badly overall today.  The score certainly indicates we didn't based on the way the Badgers played.  I think conference play will be telling this year.

If we can get Duane back in a few weeks, Todd straightened out and Steve back to how he was last year the team is transformed.  I hype Duane up a lot (to myself) but I think his quickness, play making and shooting is the biggest thing we need.  Derek is best suited as a defensive stopper off the bench and I really like him for that.  Not fair for Derek and Jake to always be thrown under the bus.  Clearly Mayo is messing up all over, and Jajuan is still learning a lot.  Buzz would be rewarding Mayo or Johnson if they deserved to be starting.

Exactly.  You guys think that Buzz doesn't realize there is an offensive problem?

Burton is a black hole on offense that makes freshman mistakes (turnovers and poor defense).  He is not a better option if the goal is to win games this year.  He is progressing and earning more time.

JJJ had two nice games against poor competition, he has not demonstrated an ability to score or create in other opportunities.  He played well against ASU, but was outplayed in that game by Thomas.  When he got time in this game he was unable to do anything on either end of the floor.  Again, if you want to win this year, not a realistic opportunity at this point.  But he is progressing well and earning more time because of it.

Let's congratulate Buzz for the 5 - 4 start, after playing the studs of ASU and SDSU and only losing by 6 to Bucky on the road with a player suspended that he recruited...

Clearly the starting lineup sucks for offense, but keep trotting them out there.   Clearly Buzz under-recruited at PG and SG.   And next year we have no front court to speak of....

But keep defending him on those points...

His incoming PG recruit is injured and the player he might have been relying on to aid the transition (Blue) bounced leaving him 2 short of where he thought he'd be at the 1 in April.

A loss is never good but it was unreasonable to expects/demand a win against a very good team ("likely" top 20) on the road.  Other than play Mayo I don't know what he could have done differently today.

Yeah, Buzz should have told Duane Wilson not to get injured.  Shame on him.  We all know how surprised even Buzz was when Vander left.  He plays significant minutes at point this year and we have 3 true point guards behind him too.  Buzz didn't under-recruit at point.  Two things happened that forced him to eventually use Jamil Wilson as our backup PG.  If Mayo wasn't such a variable and had his head on straight we're fine at SG too.

Yeah?  And it's not out of the question.  Not saying I am banking on it but if Duane is better than Derek on offense from the get-go we are in a totally different position.  Maybe it gets Mayo in the right state of mind and Taylor in a groove on offense too.

Why is it considered "hate" when the Coach is criticized. We have all this talent and are losing to "Inferior" teams. Let's see: Ja. Wilson, Du. Wilson, JJJ, Anderson, De. Wilson, Burton are all top 100 recruits. We start a "wealth" of experience; a 6 year senior, two 5 year seniors, a senior off the bench and two Jrs. How many top 100 recruits does Wis. have?

This team is not playing well--should be playing better. So maybe the coach deserves some criticism, and that does not make one a hater. Hater is a made up word to discredit somebody who you do not agree with.

Maybe with the record of 5-4, the "Buzz Kool Aid slurpers" should be ashamed.

I am confident that we all will be praising Buzz with our next cupcake victory.

Agreed on all your points. My only gripe is Buzz's decision to play guys that are not D1 players. I think I was the only guy last spring that was happy Jua and JT were leaving and hoping CO would move on. That is three spots that are not filled by JUCO's or freshmen.

I think losing du. Wil put them in a bad spot. I have no problem playing der Wilson right now because that's really all they have. No Dawson is not a solid option. My gripe would be with playing Jake so much. Damn he is bad. He is a situational player at best. I think jjj will emerge, we have seen signs of it.

I'm just getting uncomfortable with it always being put on them for not having "earned it".  Are we bringing in the wrong players, or are we failing to develop them since they aren't better than our current minutes earners despite having a significant talent advantage?

Could destroy their confidence if they are consistently overmatched and blown out of the water.

I trust Buzz because of his body of work over 5 years, not over a rough 9 game stretch in what was setting up to be a potentially rocky start to the year.

Thomas should not start. The guard with the best driving ability should be on the floor. The rules of today's game put the odds of getting fouled in his favor. JJJ and Burton should be a better fit at the position with driving to the basket and creating contact being the main goal.

Buzz is playing who gives him the best chance to win. Could jjj and dawson put up better offense than the starters? Maybe. Could jjj and dawson play better defense? No. So is buzz going to trade an almost guaranteed defensive drop for a possible offensive boost? Clearly he's not willing to roll the dice and I can't say I blame him. Now, the freshmen could improve their defense in the coming weeks or months and then I'd be on your side. Right now, the current high mpg guys are giving mu a better chance to win. In February? It may be a different dynamic. Just hib a have to live with it for now.

Elite Eight? Everybody knows that was pure luck, and Buzz is the only coach ever to benefit from first-round luck.

All he ever recruits is bad players. And switchables. And bad switchables.

And he's too loyal to players. We need a disloyal coach.

Let's fire this loser and hire somebody who can bring the Jabari Parkers and Anthony Wiggins to Marquette.

Fire Buzz. Fire him this instant and let's see if we can pry that Self guy from Kansas. He seems like a pretty decent coach, even if he did just lose to Colorado.

I know this season has been extremely disappointing so far, but THIS is the game that people decide to bitch about? On the road against a Top 10 team? I hate losing to UW-Madison as much as anyone here, but this one one of our better performances of the year. Badgers are playing great ball right now. Fortunately for us, there has been a trend of Bucky losing steam in March while we are starting to peak. I'll take that every year.

I love to have bragging rights over UW-Moscow and their legions of UW-Hyphen fans, but the season is long, and Buzz has a history of producing as the season progresses. If we're still hovering around .500 in late January, the bitching will be justified.

But honestly, we're a medium-sized Catholic university in Milwaukee with a good but not great pedigree. We won't be in the Elite 8 every year.

I trust Buzz.

But I don't trust the back court.
And apparently with the subbing, he doesn't either.

Thomas gives us the best chance to win?  Ok!  Agree to disagree.

In Buzz we trust--In Buzz we trust. That mantra is really old.

Are you talking bout MU, IU, or KU?
Man sur could have used Wiggins today.

I'm not worried about KU.  IU is really young, but for the most part playing pretty good.  I'm talking about MU.

Instead of making bets, you should be using your money to buy Fire Buzz billboards and put them up all over Milwaukee.

Dumb ass.  Nothing else really needs to be said. That goes for Willie and  madtown as well. Just,  dumb ass.  You don't dignify any other response

never said to fire Buzz, quite the opposite actually.

Very surprised Buzz has got this team the where they are now -   It does not look to be getting a whole lot better with De Willson and Jake.   This team has serious deficiencies in the backcourt (who's fault is that?).   The freshman obviously are either not as good as ranked or Buzz's schemes are too complicated for very talented 18 years old to master.

We have ample "switchables", we have no PG (hopefully Duane Wilson but when will he actually start under Buzz - Junior year?), no shooters and after this year, no centers in the near future...

Sorry, I really, realy, like Buzz as a coach but this team is in a bad state right now, it happens, and not all of it Buzz could predict (Vander leaving early, McKay bolting, Duane injury, Mayo suspenions and Taylor injury).

You do have to agree this team has a lot of "drama" around all the mysterious player departures or suspensions...

I am not a pollyanna guy who always looks at the Marquette situation through blue-and-gold glasses. I like to think of myself as a realist. I have been critical of many things surrounding this year's team, too, primarily the backcourt issues.

Having said that, I do look for the positives, too. It must be very difficult to go through life only ripping, only focusing on the negatives.

If I was like that, I seriously would stop being a fan. Life is too short.

That's right Hairy. If you can't handle opinions pound the table and call names. Perhaps it is the proverbial pot...

We had no shot at Looney.  Silly to put resources against someone that wasn't coming to MU.
