Just for fun...

Here are the teams ranked below us, but have higher seeds.

#7 Boston College
#7 Indiana (received zero votes)
#6 Duke
#6 Vanderbilt
#5 VA Tech
#5 USC
#5 Tennessee
#4 Virginia
#4 Maryland

Way to go NCAA committee.  You nailed it!!

I added in the RPI's of these teams.  Fyi, MU has a RPI of 22, MSU #24, NC #3, TX #25, & G'Town #9 per Pomeroy...

#7 Boston College #32
#7 Indiana (received zero votes) #28
#6 Duke #15
#6 Vanderbilt #47
#5 VA Tech #34
#5 USC #40
#5 Tennessee #12
#4 Virginia #55
#4 Maryland #16

So how the hell does Virginia get a 4 seed with a RPI of 55??  USC a 5 seed with a RPI of 40??  Vandy a 6 seed with a RPI of #47??  Somebody in the NCAA committee has some explaining to do... this is just WRONG!!

I have Virginia's explanation... there in the ACC

Let me get this straight? Simple math tells me that

20th ranked team / 4 brackets = 5th seed (6th is understandable)
but...

8th seed x 4 brackets = 32 (28-32 teams ahead of us)

That adds up real nicely

So then why is their RPI so bad?  You could argue that it was boasted just by being in the ACC so then why is it so low??

It must be (for some reason we do not know) that logic goes askew every year and schools with powerful alumni and influence we cannot imagine get just the nudge up necessary to guarantee the team succeeds in the NCAAs every year and gets better recruits in the years to come. That is my conspiracy theory.
Let an impartial body,  perhaps a basketball committee from Europe or Australia ,decide just using the raw hard data. We couldn't do any worse. We in turn could offer to have our committee make the brackets for their curling or cricket tourneys

or have the AP do it, or maybe the board from every conference (even the little guys) come together, same number for every group, just like the Senate does in the government.

As I read all of this, it's hard for me to ignore the fact that the NCAA basketball tournament is the single greatest sporting event in the world.  At least that's the way that I feel about it.  Sure, it is flawed, but year in and year out, it's fantastic.  When people say things like, "we couldn't do any worse" I think they've lost sight of what a great event it is.  Just my two cents.

The best way to prove the committee wrong is to play and prove them wrong.  Marquette needs to beat MSU and NC and shove the #8 seed down the committee's throat.
