Don't know about all but there are some legit college girls in Playboy's college edition.

I know, Kim Hiott from a few years back was a legit student at Texas A&M.

kind of a jumbo-shrimp style award, but that makes it even a bit cooler.  one school i'm surprised we beat out is Loyola-Marymount, they can get after it and are on da beach.

I'll agree with that, how the Marquette/Milwaukee package outdoes the Loyola-Marymount/LA package, I dont know. I don't know what the criteria are for this award though. My opinion is this has everything to do with Marquette being in Milwaukee, a nice compliment nonetheless. This could inflate an already soaring application rate to MU. I recently read in the MU Tribune that MU outdid itself once again for # of applications, I think it was around 19,000, not too shabby considering each class is around 3,000.

Marquette, being the difference in drinking establishments across Milwaukee

Loyola Marymount is bush league out here. The real Catholic party school is the University of San Diego. everybody lives at the beach. Many more bars than Playa Vista; bigger beaches and students from UC San Diego,San Diego State and others all living along a few miles of beach wearing board shorts. Plus the women are spectacular

What the hell is there to worry about? I was just worried the kids today were becoming to big of nerds and not focusing on their social education.

Football in a BCS bowl? Nope
Beat Cornell in NCAA? Nope

PERENNIAL TOP 10 power in Playboys Top ten party schools? You Bet!!

Congrats to the No 3 party school , and No 1 (natl Champ!) beer drinking college in USA.
With really good recruiting of more partiers, more mandatory beer drinking, and the newly established UW Intl School of Partying, UW is sure to challenge for a natl championship.

Here's Playboys scouting report:

3 UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-MADISON
It’s the best beer-drinking school in the country. Quote us. And with Badger sports improving (but still frustrating), the faithful show they can drown their woes in drink without rioting (take notice, WVU). Come Thursday night, (it)spills its students onto State and Mifflin streets, which we call Lager Nirvana.

Oh, how MU has declined.  In the seventies, MU was not mentioned in this list, but then in a footnote, the Playboy article said "Marquette University was not ranked because the author thought that it was unfair to rank professionals with amateurs."

And that is bullcrap.  That same story has been told about just about every university in the country.  There was never such a footnote - ever.  There was a reference to some university, (not Marquette) in a response to a reader's letter to the editor.  When I was at Marquette, we heard the same story about Wisconsin.

When I was at Marquette in the late seventies, it certainly seemed it could be true.  a top basketball team and a drinking age of 18 were HUGE advantages.  Of course, Wisconsin shared one of those advantages.

+1 and I wasn't even alive then.

There is nothing more ridiculous than when MU students today argue that we go as hard, or have the same identity that alums did back in the day.  Back then, MU had a much more slaberknocker, beer guzzling, keg in the dorm urinals feel to it.  Being uptown people was such a great classification because of the self aware irony of it all.  I'm not even necessarily criticizing, because that punch you in the mouth mentality just sort of has to begin to fade away with some of the academic concessions MU has made, but contemporary students need to acknowledge things just aren't like they were.

Can't say I was there in the time you guys were talking about, but a few years ago we were trying all we were good for to bring it back.  State street block parties were thrown.  I believe we topped out at 23 kegs for 1 party.

ya know, i hate to be the party pooper, but when you're out of school and look back at your years at MU, of course you want them to be fond.  but the party school rank thing really degrades the school more than it lifts it.  it's best to fly under the radar.  party schools tend to have more casualties, reckless behavior, the appearance of sluttiness, etc...  see how it worked out for chris farley and others.  don't get me wrong.  i had my,  wait, more than my fair share of fun at MU.  i tended bar a number of area drinking establishments, including summerfest and you don't have to be ranked in some publication to tell everyone whether it is a fun place or not.  hey, i walked down wisco ave the night we won the big one in '77 and sat in my apartment studying for mids the night the brewers won the pennant.  so, congrats, i think, but have fun, be safe, and be smart-don't end up in detox or wheelchair over some magazine ratings

More like 2,000.

This year, it was 19,000 (a record) for 1800 target (the standard Frosh class).  To get to 1800, they accept something like 10,000.  MU is way tougher to get into now than when I went 30 years ago.  Pleased to say my daughter starts this fall.

Grads Head to College In Record Numbers

By SARA MURRAY

The share of new high-school graduates enrolled in college reached a record high last year, likely reflecting the weak job market they faced.

Some 70.1% of the 2.9 million new graduates between the ages of 16 and 24 headed to colleges and universities, the Labor Department said Tuesday, based on data from January through October 2009. That percentage was a historical high for the data series, which began in 1959.

College-enrollment rates have been rising gradually: In 2008, 68.6% of high-school graduates headed to college, up from 62.9% in 1999. But the poor economy, which has created a particularly tough labor market for young and uneducated workers, is amplifying the trend.

..

66% of last year's male high-school graduates to continue on to college; 73.8% of young women went on to college as well.
