Title: Boston Globe writer on Buzz
Post by: Sir Lawrence on January 22, 2010, 06:10:43 PM
Anyone know this guy?  Charles P. Pierce?  Boston Globe writer?

"And, in men's college basketball, the Big East men keep beating each other up. Alma mammy dropped another one to a carnival shot, this time against DePaul, bungling an end-game situation for the 450th time in Buzz Williams' short career on the banks of the Menomonee. The Warriors could be 16-3 going into Syracuse tomorrow afternoon. Instead, they're 12-7 and this one isn't going to be as close as those others were.

Victim of coicumstance."

Well at least he is following Marquette.  And I got to say he hasn't displayed any more displeasure than many of us.

Waiting for this guy to get blasted by all those who have defended Buzz's coaching prowess in game situations of the losses.

If you like the liberal slant on things.  Or if you subscribe to the elitist theory that "we're smart and the rest of the country is full of idiots."

Go Warriors.

I'll go first ...

I wish Buzz would knock it off with that radical coaching strategy of getting players in position to put away games in ther closing seconds at the free throw line. Lord knows that never works in basketball.

He has consistently committed the unforgivable act of getting an undermanned, undersized group of players to compete in every game with teams that hang out in the Top 10 of college basketball. If only they would roll over and get blown out early, his pathetic coaching wouldn't come back to bite us at the end of games.

Lots of the country IS full of idiots, unfortunately.  If you worked in my job, you'd see it all the time.  By no means a conservative/liberal thing, so don't make it political.  And Charlie is a huge MU fan.

Unfortunaterly, 4ever, it is impossible to discuss Charlie without making it political. I had to drop him as a Facebook friend because his posts were so far to the left (and so numerous) that I finally said enough's enough. He is a great writer but he makes Pelosi sound like Limbaugh.

Hey how did I get mixed into this. But, isn't all of the media a bunch of pinko, liberal comies?

What is it with sportswriters foisting their political views on readers?

Hopefully, this November will really give these liberal hacks something to bi*** about.

Hards has an opinion on this.   ;)

Well, for a liberal dude, he's still calling Marquette the Warriors.

I wouldn't say that Pierce's book espoused the theory that liberals are smart and everyone else is stupid. It really came down to the idea that we are all entitled to our opinions, but not our own facts. Like the creation science "Museum" in kentucky whose exhibits feature happy cavemen riding saddled dinosaurs.

But, per Pierce, since enough people believe that cavemen and dinosaurs walked the earth at the same time, and they believe it fervently, therefore it must be true. Never mind that any credible paleontologist, evolutionary biologist, anthropologist, can reliably demonstrate there was a 60-million year gap between T. Rex and Neanderthal man.

It's really more about the devaluing of empiricism and the consequences for our society. And it's pretty damn funny in a lot of spots.

Charlie's book about his father's battle with Alzheimer's is brilliant. When he talks politics, it's like listening to Keith Olbermann and I'd rather change the channel.

Ecompt, you might enjoy this about Charlie....exactly as you stated.  Funny stuff
