Title: Woot Off day
Post by: spiral97 on January 30, 2007, 10:26:50 AM
It's a Woot-Off day over at woot.com (http://woot.com).. usually lots of good stuff comes through during woot-offs.. but they go fast so you have to check back somewhat frequently.

Anyone willing to provide a cliff notes version of what the hell you're talking about?  Sounds like a foreign language.  I'll visit woot later and figure out what it is, but I was hoping for a quick summary.

Thanks.

Random woot rant...

Why the hell does everyone and their brother go out of their way to create a woot tracker?  Seems like most people are donating their time and bandwidth to woot - but why?  Some have ads, but others are just doing it for free.  woot.com is the one making all the money off sales, if their servers break down because I'm hitting refresh every 5 seconds - then THEY need to do something to resolve it - f'em.  They've created the monster, they're making money off of it, they can handle it.

I agree - but many of them make it easy.. the one I use (http://kerngamers.com/woot/ (http://kerngamers.com/woot/)) auto-refreshes for me every 15 seconds, shrinks the image down to about an inch wide by 1.5 inches high and tells me the percentage left right on the title bar.  easy for me to have it open in the background in the corner of my screen with just the image displayed.

course the issue is when a Buttload 'o Candies comes on, I can't even get to the woot server to get it...

haven't gotten anything from woot yet.. but I usually check on a daily basis.. those few days I miss always seem to have something I would have bitten on.  oh well....

So far today:

My WOOTS:

1/31/2007 1 Logitech Wireless USB Music System for PC
1/31/2007 3 Bags Of  Crap
1/31/2007 1 Logitech MX3000 Cordless Desktop Set
1/31/2007 1 Netgear WPN824 RangeMax MIMO Wireless Router

You'll love the MIMO router.  Bought a Zyxel off e-bay a couple months ago (along with zyxel usb adaptors).  The router is down in the basement in the farthest diagonal corner of the house, and I get a full signal.  'Course, I have a really small house, but still - very good range.

Post by: Chili on January 31, 2007, 09:25:04 PM
yeah, i got the router for $34.99 ($29.99 + $5.00 shipping) so I am happy. I currently have a b which is also only 10mbps. my buddy recommended the music system as he as one in his house and loves it. i wanted a new mouse so this combo worked for me and Bags of Crap - we shall see. Anything from calendars to remote control dinosaurs to 61" HDTV's come in them.

Fun fun fun....

wow.. I was watching at about 2am (finally got my stereo system reassembled and speakers mounted and needed to update my logitech remote) and saw it go to a casio watch without the woot-off lights.. so I had assumed it was over.. when I saw your post though, I went back and checked and lo-and-behold, it's back on!  very strange...  :-\

speaking of which... does anyone have the original remote for a Denon AVR-5800 audio/video receiver?  :(
Title: Re: Woot Off day
Post by: Chili on February 01, 2007, 08:49:30 AM
Its a 3 day woot. I have heard they are moving to a new warehouse - might be a clean out.

spiral, why do you need the original - just get a harmony.
Title: Re: Woot Off day
Post by: spiral97 on February 01, 2007, 10:09:38 AM
I have a harmony.. *sigh*

only problem is that the AV Receiver has a setup menu function whereby you set up the speaker arrangement and map the optical audio inputs to devices.  The Harmony profile for this avr does not include the setup "button".  :(  I have called logitech harmony's support line and they did some things to me profile that might help.. just need to get home and try to update the remote with the updates and see if that works.

ahha!  being smarter than software has its advantages!  just added the next higher receiver to my remote and it has all the same buttons my receiver has plus more.. so setup is back... and my surrounds are on! and my optical input is mapped!  and I am in av heaven  ;D

get a tracking number with it?  If so, you MIGHT be able to see details like weight... could tell you if you're getting a 84" tv.... then again it could be a 10'x10' box of manure..........

No fear!  6lbs. is still a substantial amount of crap.. I should know.. my dog seems to deposit turds of an equivalent weight that I joyously must find and pick up periodically.

Of couse you'll post pictures of your crap, right?

As was clear earlier in the thread, I never heard of woot before this thread was started.  Interesting and funny site.  I particularly liked the description of the car alarm system a few days ago.

That "whistle" .. how loud is it?  .. It reminds me of a product called a "sport horn" ..

http://www.garrettspecialties.com/sport-horn-p-623.html

I have one .. it is SUPER loud, like a fog horn.  I'm surprised some enterprising MU students don't buy a dozen and hand them out to the gold rush, freak out the opposing team during FT attempts.

Ummm...what the hell is the point of a "wired" remote?  On a portable CD player?

Just guessing, but say you throw the cd player in your backpack, then you just have the remote and headphones coming out.  But really, who uses CD players in the day of MP3s anyway...

I though teams could get technical fouls for fans blowing whistles and the like?  Maybe this is something I've been mistaken on for several years.  Of course, if it sounds like a foghorn then maybe it wouldn't apply.

No idea what a wired remote is but hoping to get $10 on craigslist.
