Marquette stomps UW-M

Written by: noreply@blogger.com (Tim Blair (aka NY Warrior))

For the second year in a row, the Marquette Golden Eagles annihilated the UW-M Panthers winning 100 - 80 at the Bradley Center tonight. Marquette is now 36-0 all-time against the Panthers and moves to 3-0 on the season.

Tonight's blowout win was the school's 1400th all time. Marquette became the 50th school to accomplish such a feat and did so in their 92nd season. MU's .617 winning percentage currently ranks 33rd best all-time in DI history.

After trailing by three late in the first half Marquette rolled the rest of the way, keyed by the Three Amigos and Lazar Hayward. Lazar Hayward delivered a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Wesley Matthews continued his fast start to the season with a 25 point night. Jerel McNeal added 22, while Dominic James finished with 16 points and eight assists.

Here is Rosiak's blog entry from right after the game (http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/34952344.html). Check it out for more straight talk from Buzz.  There's also Rosiak's official story (http://www.jsonline.com/sports/goldeneagles/34944309.html) on the game, calling Marquette the "toast of the town". Finally, take a peek at the official GoMarquette.com release (http://gomarquette.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/recaps/112208aaa.html). MU has the box score, two photo galleries, and podcasts aplenty. There are podcasts from Buzz, McNeal, and James

Next up for Marquette is a home tilt against Texas Southern on Tuesday night.

Title: Marquette stomps UW-M - 100.3 ppg through 3 truly historic
Post by: bamamarquettefan on November 23, 2008, 06:00:04 PM
Hey guys, for some reason I haven't been able to get to www.crackedsidewalks.com all day today - so I'll post here.

The 100.3 ppg through three games is historic - only the 1954-55 squad comes close with 93.7 ppg their first three games (Terry Rand and Co. vs. Mich St, Ripon and Creighton) en route to an all-time high 84.2 ppg for the season en route to the Elite 8.  No other MU team has been within 11 ppg of this year's start.  The closest after the 1954-55 squad were:

89.3 - George Thompson's 1966-67 team averaged 89.3 in wins over Aquinas, South Dakota and at New York

89.0 - Dwyane Wade's 2001-02 team averaged 89.0 in wins over Loyola, Chicago State and Tennessee

88.3 - Tony Miller's 1994-95 team put up 88.3 in their first three games AFTER the Sweet 16 run the March before, beating UNLV, Ohio State, and once again, UWM.

87.7 - George Thompson didn't waste any time - his 1967-68 team pasted St. Thomas, South Dakota and Air Force to open his second campaign.

i don't care if we've only won by averaging 75 points a game in the OOC season-- scoring 92 against UCONN in the BEast inaugural outing is fine by me  :D.

what about some numbers for our conference seasons' point total averages?  that's what i care about most ;)

Hmm.  CS does look like it's been knocked offline .. all day.  Odd that google hasn't fixed this.

That does happen to me on occasion.  I blame the 8,000 users of MU's ever-shrinking bandwidth.
