Title: Most Over/Underated Teams Since 1990
Post by: Pardner on September 12, 2008, 08:39:07 PM
If you are into stats, a great resource is StatSheet.com.  This is a free site that is very comprehensive--and makes it easy to analyze any question you may have.  One recent topic: the most over and under rated teams.

Of note, since 1990, MU was the 13th most underrated team--speaking volumes for the KO and Deane years since MU was not on the list in the 2000's grouping.  In the 2000's Gonzaga (#1), Bucky (#2) and Pitt (#3) comp out as the Top 3 underrated teams, with Cinn (#4) and ND (#10).   Hard to believe Bucky made this list--although this says a lot for Bo's teams' consistency vs. his late season finishes.  I won't even bring up the Domers.

Since 1990, Michigan State is the most overrated team (hello, Coach Izzo).  Syracuse (#7), UCONN (#10) and Georgetown (#11) make the list since 2000.  No MU appearances on these lists--so TC is off the hook from some of us scorned lovers--although IU is the #4 overrated in the 2000's--so he has a high bar to shoot for.   ;)

All kidding aside, this is an interesting site as we sit idle awaiting the Snaer news.

Here is another stat about MU hoops over the past 40 years that is pretty amazing and puts into perspective that MU is an elite program.

>> Most appearances in Top 5:  11th of all teams in the nation
>> In Top 10:  12th
>> In Top 25:  12th

Wait...what? You mean to tell me that Marquette has been winning basketball games for decades? I thought Tom Crean invented Marquette basketball?

Tom Crean = Charlie Weis...two complete idiots who get their entire personalities out of "leadership books."

I continue to be embarrassed by anybody who bought into Crean. You could've paid $9.99 for it in the discount bid.

Good luck with that, Indiana!!

Oh not another one.  Crean was the best coach MU has had since McGuire.  Period.  Get over it.

I really have to question the validity of this entire excercise when the most overrated team since 1990 has gone to four Final Fours and won a national championship.

MD, Syracuse, UCONN and KS also on his list--and all who won National Championships...since StatSheet Robbie uses the AP sportwriter's poll vs. the Coaches Poll in this comparison--perhaps this begs to question if that poll is more reflective of fans' unrealistic expectations.  Wouldn't we love to be on that list?  There are about 250 DI schools who would have loved to have TC's F4 appearance.  Success breeds expectations.
