Title: DirecTV ? for Chicos
Post by: Eye on January 02, 2007, 11:14:42 PM
Seems like you're getting a ton of these, but I see MU is on SportsNY, MASN and Comcast NW Thursday. Are any of those cleared for Thursday? Thanks in advance for the response.

I'd be interested to know as well.  I'm thinking of renewing my Sports Package, but I don't want to if the game is blacked out.

I'll second this as a great question that I have yet to find an answer too.  I'd love to know if there's a public resource that lists blackout rules so that I could find out before I tune to a game.  Annoying that I can only find out at the time of the event :( Hopefully that won't happen tonight...

I'll take somewhat of a shot at my own question. Have had DirecTV with SportsPack for about five or six years now; never even considered buying the FullCourt package when MU was in C-USA; not on there enough, and one of my best friends gets all the sports packages, so I'd simply go to his place one or two times a year in exchange for paying for the annual subscription to Jerry Palm's RPI site. I've considered getting the FullCourt package the last two years, but passed due to the low # of MU games available on that package only, plus having to work a lot on Wednesday night and Saturday, which are the prime viewing times for having that package.

As for my attempt at an answer, I've found that if the game is on something other than a Fox Sports Net (other than your local outlet obviously), NESN or MSG, there's about an 80 percent chance you'll be clear. That list would include Altitude (Colorado), Comcasts (the West version, 656, seems to be clear almost all of the time), MASN (new in the last year or two - not completely sure here yet), SportsNY (same as MASN), Sunshine and normally YES. It's not a foolproof method; just my recollection of what's happened over the past five or six years.

Sorry gents, I've been on the road at a conference and just got back.  Full Court goes to the half season price on Monday of next week so if you're going to purchase it, wait until then.

As for sports pack, normally all those games will clear.  The ACC has some games that do not and once in a great while another game will not clear for whatever reason.  But I have never seen a Marquette game not clear.  Many people add sports pack from November to March and then drop it until the next season.  Definitely some good football and basketball on there, plus you get ESPNU.

Thanks Chicos. I'll be happy to give you a free plug for the SportsPack. It's $12 well spent each and every month. The simulcast of Mike and The Mad Dog on YES is fantastic, I get to watch almost every U of A basketball game and a fair # of MU games on there. In baseball season, you get pre- and post-game for nearly every major league team. I've got a buddy in Kentucky who's just gotten into thoroughbred ownership, too, so I've been watching TVG a little bit. I'm into the 49ers and Seahawks during football season, so it gets me something besides national coverage on them. Having YES and NESN has given me an apprecation for what the Yankees - Red Sox rivarly is all about. If anybody's a fan of a team outside of their own market, I'd say it's almost a must-have.
