I have got them at 27-4 with a lot of success in the non-conference schedule as well as the opening of the BE. @ND and @Pitt are the biggest question marks but why not have optimism at this point? I don't see us below 24-7 on the down side. Your Predictions?

BEast schedule I see them with 6 losses, agree with non conference games. Toughest schedule is schools history, new coach, lack post depth.

nobody thinks we'll beat Tenn?
I will speculate that people do think we can beat Tennessee but
1) think we are going to lose an OOC game somewhere
2) so this seems the most logical since it's a road game (although technically a neutral site game)
3) and a major conference team that has been good recently
4) with the ESPN type-of-storyline with a coach (with an orange blazer) who used to coach in Milwaukee who had critical things to say of our school
5) and with MU having a new coach.
So everyone will pick the L and hope and cheer for the W.
I thought I would try to revive this thread because of the seasons expectations post this morning.

Thanks Henry,
I have been thinking about our schedule and it looks like @NC is a critical road test. If we fail to be "road Warriors" as you and others predict, it suggests a reasonable amount of pain on the road in conference. Road wins are always tough but I am hoping that our senior leadership overcomes it this year.

The more I look at our last 5 conference games, which I do not see us winning any of them. Based on last year's performance we could lose by 20 points in all of those games, the more I think NIT.
Can you imagine .. missing the NCAAs with this team, with 3 seniors who've been to 3 straight dances .. Buzz would be sent back to New Orleans before the NIT game.
He would be blamed. But the fact is the five last games on our schedule are against teams that have more talent then MU. Uconn, Louisville and Pittsburg are picked to finish ahead of MU in the preseason. Marquette is picked 5th acording to Athlon with Georgetown 6th and Syracuse 7th. Georgetown has a significant size advantage over MU. The team is young, but this is a late seson game. I think MU will win the first game at MU, but I do not believe they will sweep Georgetown. Sryacuse was inconsistant last year and lost Green to NBA. They have everyone else back including two players that were injured last year. They are the only team in the Big East we have not beaten. Crean's one on one style did not fare well against Boheim's zone, especially since our guards are slashers and not shooters. It is a bad matchup for MU. My predictions are based on how MU would have done if Crean was still coaching MU. Crean generally did not have his teams playing well at the end of the year. Hopefully, Buzz can keep this team loose. But based on last year's results under Crean and MU's lack of inside size I do not see how anyone can expect us to win these games. Having said that the games still have to be played. The one thing that gives me optimism is that Crean is gone. Hopefully the late February March swoons went with him. I also believed the Big East refs hated Crean. Hopefully, they will give Buzz a chance. No matter how good of a coach Buzz is, I do think we can expect him to out coach Calhoun, Boheim and Pittino his first year? While Dixon and Thompson have not been around as long as the other three, they so far have shown to be very good coaches. All five of these teams have more talent then MU and have experienced top notch coaches. We had to play these five games sometime during the season. I think is unfortunate we get them the last five games of the season. I do not believe any team in the country will have a tougher last five game schedule.
All five of those last scheduled teams have a center/power forward that is going to cause major problems and mismatches. Lets hope Burke and Otule come around by the end of season or else it could be five losses in a row to end.
Georgetown - Summers
UCONN - Thabeet/Adrian
Louisville - Clark/Samuels
PITT - Blair
Syracuse - Onaku
In addition, having an inexperienced coach is not going to help.
11-2 OC
9-9 BE
20-11 Total
1-1 NCAAs
It's the time of the year to be optimistic, so here goes ...
I'll say 12-1 non-conference, 14-4 Big East, 2-1 BET, 2-1 NC2As, for 30-7 total.
Non-Conference -- 11-2
Conference -- 10-8
BE Tournament -- 1-1
NCAA Tournament -- 1-1
23-12. Those numbers would be disappointing to me.

I don't quite get it. Why would you be disappointed with a 23-12 record if that is what your predicting going into the season. Wouldn't a 23-12 record mean the team met your expectations and a season with more than 12 losses mean it would be disappointing? Just wondering thats all.

WOW what a brutal last 5 game stretch. 23-8 (NC 12-1 C 11-7) Would have had higher expectations of Mbakwe was around as I believe we are one big man short of a legit Big East title contender. McNeal will be a seriously considered for Big East player of the year.

fanatic--
My words come from a "grand scheme" viewpoint.
Understanding our serious limitations as a team, and understanding the competition level we face in conference, I would find it disappointing that we see a triumvirate the caliber of James, McNeal, and Matthews sputter around the 22-24 win plateau in their final season. Then again, if they finish with 24 wins and lose in the Elite Eight I can't imagine anyone calling that a disappointment.
