In his article he says that some basketball experts thought that Wisconsin led for Jamil Wilson's services at one point. Has Wisconsin EVER led for Jamil Wilson? I don't recall them ever being the leader but that may have been the choice years ago. My recollection was that MU was the leader from pretty much day 1 under Crean and then things changed dramatically when Crean left, but not in a positive way for Wisconsin.
Is Gery talking out of his arse again?

Not an expert, but Gery doesn't have a clue what he's talking about.

That's pretty much what I thought. My guess is old Gery thinks he's the expert and since Jamil isn't going (nor was he EVER going) to Wisconsin, that has him on the defensive.

"Rhetorical question. Set of 10 Mr. Bailbonds."
I'm pretty sure Wilson has never publicly stated a leader and saying that Marquette was the leader at one point is as much speculation as Gerry's claim that Wisconsin was. I know Marquette has always been involved and I know Wisconsin was involved until it was clear Wilson was not interested. I may be talking out my arse too but thats just seems to be what I've read.

Wilson never stated a leader, but his coaches would typically say things like "Marquette will be tough to beat" or "Jamil is considering a number of schools...he has a great relationship with Tom Crean", etc, etc. They would seem to go out of their way to give an extra mention about Crean or MU in the statements I recall reading.
It all makes sense now....Gery being unknowledgeable and being the weekly guest on the Gary and Cliff show.
Gary can be very valuable as a counter indicator. Whatever his "sources" say the opposite is typically going to happen. Not sure if this will hold true now that Crean is gone. However since MU did not re-hire Mike Deane to replace Crean I would assume Gary's bias will continue.

If this was a site didicated to Badger basketball or to Duke Basketball, I'm sure I could find you an article where there was a quote that gave the impression thay their school was the leader. I don't personally believe many of those quotes unless they are directly from the player's mouth or his family. I'd be interested to see these quotes you remember reading from coaches if you could find them I'd appreciate it. The point of this thread was questioning the statement by Gerry Woerfell saying that "some basketball officials thought Wisconsin was the leader" which is probably true its Wilson's home-state university that has had tremendous success in the last couple years if you don't believe Wilson considered Wisconsin heavily than your kidding yourself. The term basketball official can be very broad...
