Title: Syracuse Sexual Assault
Post by: nola03 on August 04, 2008, 10:19:17 AM
Surprised this didn't merit more discussion over the weekend.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/basketball/ncaa/08/04/ap.bkc.syracuse.abusech.ap/

Notice that the complaints were filed way back in Autumn 2007 and nary a word leaked from Boeheim's bunker. Some pretty important players for the SU program involved. Though nothing criminal will come out of it, the incidents speak to the character of the players.

Don't you think it is premature to assume anything about the characters of these college players?  Especially in light of no charges being made by the grand jury?

Agreed.  who knows the facts of the situation.  This case does show the importance of young guys using some common sense in their actions.  There is a fine line that can be easily crossed.  Tough to be in the bright lights sometimes.

The guys at Duke were thrown under the bus, unjustly.  Let's not do the same.

agreed. All the Duke guys were guilty of was stupidity for putting themselves in that situation. Stupidity can run rampant among young athletes.

Fixed it for ya.

We all have been stupid. It's just a question of how stupid, and did you get caught.

As a guy who has always been a Huggins fan...that post was hilarious!

Not getting a grand jury indictment says a lot. An indictment only says there was cause for the charges, its not the same as a guilty verdict.

I don't find it premature at all.

Being found guilty of a criminal charge is not my standard of character. Seemingly, it is for almost everyone else (wow. sensitive. must be a monday. ugh.) who posted in this thread. It's not the consequences that reveal character, it's the actions prior to the fallout.

Huh?  I'll assume that you're not talking about me (or MUBasketball) because absolutely nothing in either of our posts suggests that.

But you don't know what the actions are yet?  Nobody is saying that the consequences make the character, but they are saying that we should reserve judgment until we actually know what the actions which reveal the character are.  Who knows what actually happened?  While it may reflect something about their character, we won't know what that is for a while.   It could simply be a case of bad judgment or lack of common sense, or it could be downright criminal.

In a legal system where any half competent prosecutor could indict a ham sandwich for most anything, it is pretty telling that no indictments were handed down in this case.  Ya' gotta' have some proof before you judge.  Apparently some want to engage in character attack with an factual basis, but rather based on gut reaction, gender or......?

I did write a response trying to clear up your confusion but then I reread your last post and realized all you want to do was attack my character without factual basis but rather based on gut reaction, gender or.......?

hmmmm, you think I attacked your character without factual basis?

Isn't that exactly what you did?

Well, as long as it wasn't Arinze Onuaku....

seriously though ... sexual assault accusations are never good, real or falsified, so I can appreciate the point of view that says these just shouldn't happen, period.
