Jack Swarbrick will be an excellent AD, if the administration/Board of Trustees lets him actually do the job.

Well, I hope that they at least stuck with the time honored tradition of interviewing zero candidates.

The path to Jack Swarbrick is a little clearer to me now that I learned that Dick Notebaert is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees at ND.  He was president of Indiana Bell (the "Little Bell" serving Indiana after the disbanding of "Ma Bell" -- it is likely that those under about 35 have no idea what I am talking about!!! -- and now reassembled as AT&T) during the growth of Indianapolis' amateur sports movement.  So Swarbrick and Notebaert would have worked together on many high profile events in that time.

It is funny (at least to me) that I have kind of wierd stories of initial interactions with both of these guys.  I first met Jack (who was then probably a senior associate or new partner at his law firm) when is was in grad school at Indiana after I went with a friend (who was a good friend of one of Jack's sisters) to baby-sit/entertain young children at his parents' house in Bloomington during his father's funeral.  And I met Dick (then Richard) after he was appointed to the board of a not-for-profit organization I ran.  Our 1st meeting was memorable b/c I was talking about the need to market to compete in the non-profit world.  He questioned the need for such thing, then I asked him why as monopoly HE felt the need to spend huge money trying to get people to buy call-waiting, etc.  It was a stand-off, but the meeting concluded with him telling me if I needed anything the best time to get ahold of him was between 7:00 and 7:30 a.m.!
