From Katz's blog today...
The John Wooden Tradition in Indianapolis is likely now set with Gottfried saying Alabama will play Marquette. Purdue is supposed to play Davidson in the other matchup.
awesome. this schedule is shaping up pretty nice
Another neutral site game .... I wonder if the home and home with NC State fell through.
Nice!
One more game in CA! nvm
Plus, I guess it's okay now that Marquette plays a Crean-friend in Gottfried.
NC State would still be nice b/c it would be our only non-conf road game.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the game would be in Indy, Indy.
The Wooden Classic is in Anaheim. This is the Wodden Tradition. The man needs at least one more tournament named after him I'm thinking.

Yeah...just realized that when I went to the tourney's website.
DAMMIT!
;D ill be there!
Have wanted to see this game since Novak's rimmed out 3.
Who knows what the numbers will produce in the end but certainly in terms of perception this will be the best composite MU schedule in a long, long time.

Correction. Gottfried is a Crean-relative, he's Joanie's cousin.
So beating them should be that much sweeter.
Which reminds me...
Does this match-up officially begin the "Crean at a Marquette game Clock"?
I mean, Gottfried is a relative and MU is playing near Bloomington.
AND he sure can't pass up any publicity...
That fruitcake better not show his face or even try to meet with the team before the game...

Come on, this is a family site.
Firecracker? fire-trucker? full mouth pucker? fruit packer? Fig Cracker? Even better if he tries and the team refuses to allow it.

Changed...you might want to change your previous post and edit the quote, too.
chances are great that he will be busy with his own team that day. if not he very well drive the hour to see the game.
However, i can guarantee the cuurent group of players has no interest whatsoever in hearing anything he has to say. Nor would the cuurent coaching staff have any interest or see any benefit in having him say anything to the team.

I was just giving you crap.
I think Crean in the stands would only fall short to playing Indiana in terms of motivating the team to win.
when is the Wooden Itbenice tournament? Sorry.
date?
I believe the Wooden Tradition is Saturday, December 20th.
If he shows up, bend over and blow him a kiss from me.

I think so. 12/20 is the day of the Wooden Tradition, and that is the same day that MU was looking to play NC State, which likely would have been the last game before Christmas. But NC State already had Lipscomb on their schedule for that day, and they were not able to get Lipscomb to switch. Since then, MU has added Western Carolina on 12/21, so it looks like Alabama on a neutral court gave them a better quality opponent, and allowed them to stay close enough to home to get in one more home game before Christmas.
There doesn't seem to be room for NC State anymore.
So Marquette plays Alabama in the Wooden Tradition on 12/20, then hosts Western Carolina on 12/21??? Can that possibly be right?
I can't remember a time when a team had games on consecutive days without being in a tournament, especially two different states.

Well we know for sure the Wooden Tradition is 12/20 in Indiana. And according to Western Carolina's schedule posted on their home page, they are playing at the BC on 12/21, but no time is given:

That implies that the shot was inside the rim. It hit the ouside of the rim and was not close to going in. The high bounce over the back board took away any chance for an offensive rebound.

Life is much better knowing that. You remember rimshots better then I.
Onto other things, it's not out of the question to think Buzz called Western Carolina to request a date change if the Wooden Tradition just recently came calling.
I feel like the Dave Stohler character in Breaking Away [one of my all time favorite movies. Now where was that movie set? Somewhere about 50 miles southwest of Indianapolis, if I recall correctly] when he took such glee when the Italians were coming to race in Indianapolis.
I will definitely be in the house, hoping for the double play -- Marquette winning and Purdue losing!!!!

Last year, Coppin State played a Friday night game at the Bradley Center and then bussed it down to Bloomington to play the Hoosiers at Noon the next day.
