votes: 8
Option 3: Focus mainly on Wisconsin but some from across the nation
votes: 25
Option 4: Recruit everywhere equally
votes: 94
There has been alot of debate about this so lets settle it now.
Looks to me like a clear mandate has been reached.
Thank you readers. It started to look like two posters objective was to pin Buzz with local recruiting success. But glad to see the great majority of readers see the bigger picture. Find talented student/players who are interested in playing for Marquette where ever they may be. But it's always special when midwest player/students choose Marquette.
I think recruiting only in Wisconsin is a great idea.....
......for UWM! ::)
MUinOH---Great point if you are talking year in and year out. '09 class is special and we need to get them. Not every year produces BE players and this year happens to be one of them. I fall into the Jamil or bust camp. Next year I might fall into recruit FL or bust.
Buzz needs to make a statement. Recruiting a McDonald's AA your first year makes a statement. The whole thing is a marathon and we do not need to sign kids just to sign them. '09-'10 season will be tough no matter who we sign.
Looks like a pretty tiny camp. So who is it the following year that Buzz's recruiting will be a bust if he doesn't recruit? Wow, let's have tunnel vision. While it would be great if we got Wilson, one is setting themselves up for disappointment if it doesn't happen. Cheers to possible disappointment.
The problem is poll questions - they can be intepreted many different ways.
Should Buzz ALWAYS try and get a Wisconsin player or two every year even if that means we have two or three (four) Scott C. levels of talent on this roster? Or should Buzz only go after Wisconsin talent when it warrants going after?
This is how I answered the question. Others may have answered it as go after maymom, lack and wilson.
Another MU---I think it goes on a year to year basis. There does not appear to be major studs in '10 season and you alter your recruiting. I answered the question based on '09 prospects. If the poll stated Mr. Wisconsin or bust every year or recruit everywhere every year....I vote for recruiting everywhere.
My gut still tells me that for a 1st year coach recruiting locally is easier. With this being a good year locally I think it should be a focus.
NCNUfan---I would not be as disappointed if Buzz went hard for Wilson and ended up second place. I would be real disappointed if news came out similar to Anderson of UW, that we really did not come on as hard as other schools. We all know recruiting is a hit or miss deal. Swinging and missing means more to me than watching from the dugout.
looks like the MU scoop community is in line with the coaching staff.
