Player freaks out in basketball offices, campus police called, etc.
Let the silly Tom Crean bashing commence ...
Indiana's Holman to transfer
By MICHAEL MAROT, AP Sports Writer
INDIANAPOLIS (AP)—Freshman center Eli Holman threw another potential wrench into Indiana's rebuilding project Thursday, telling coaches he intended to transfer before apparently throwing a tantrum in their office that required a call to the campus police.
The meeting, which coach Tom Crean described as cordial initially, certainly did not end that way.
"His behavior took me, along with the other people in the office, by surprise," Crean said in a statement released by the university. "We saw him as a danger to himself and wanted to take precautionary measures to help him. We felt bad for Eli and, hopefully, were able to help him."
Campus police declined to comment on the situation, and The Associated Press left a message seeking comment for Capt. Jerry Minger of the Indiana University police department.
Holman did not have a listed telephone number in Bloomington. The Associated Press sent an e-mail seeking comment to a school address listed in his name.
"No one said anything about feeling threatened or like the anger was directed at a specific person," Minger told The Bloomington Herald-Times.
Police did not arrest Holman, but took a statement from Crean and others who witnessed the outburst, The Herald-Times reported. Holman left the building without speaking to the police.

Ten bucks says the new tanning bed in the locker room was the last straw for this kid. ;D
They really hate potted plants and flowers around Indiana basketball.
Indiana basketball player Eli Holman has requested to be released from his scholarship, according to basketball coach Tom Crean.
When Holman met with Crean this afternoon to discuss his plan, he became angry during the conversation and eventually broke a flower pot in the basketball office. That prompted a call to police.

"Fake Bake" can't even keep centers who are already signed! I bet Holman wasn't yelling: "It's Indiana, It's Indiana"!
Flipped out when T-Cubed said he had to do hyperbaric training following karate lessons.
He probably subjected him into a tape of MU's "big man development" over the last decade, and he went Bobby Knight on Crean and company.
Amo...A.D.D. & Gambling Addiction
Brandon Bell...Alcoholic
Eli Holman...suicidal
TC never minds tossing the kids under the bus. Never his fault.
aren't you glad you got sucha closely knit group of players with such great attitudes, crean?
man...listening to Wes, DJ, and 'rel's interview was such a breath of fresh air.
Anybody have a list of the IU recruits who have asked to be taken off their LOI and the players who've already transfered out / went to the NBA?
How many scholarship players does Crean actually have right now? 5 3/4?
Not surprised Holman was involved in a strange incident. This is the same kid who was banned from high school basketball as a junior for shoving a referee, then he got shot going to a party at a hotel, tried to drop out of school when he wasn't reinstated to play right away as a senior, and literally disappeared when he was supposed to be showing up to IU to enroll in classes. The fact that he made it this long is shocking. Talented, but very strange dude.

I love this post. Brandon Bell being an alcoholic doesn't suprise me since his is from Michigan and half the state is unemployed.
Crean loses another 6'9" player

I mean, while we're on the subject of inappropriate posts....
Vike, if TC doesn't leak this stuff out to his "people", I and others don't know about it. Don't blame me, blame the guy who got the information out into the TC PR defense system.
Was it this plant?

Last night:
"His behavior took me, along with the other people in the office, by surprise," Crean said in a statement released by the university. "We saw him as a danger to himself and wanted to take precautionary measures to help him. We felt bad for Eli and, hopefully, were able to help him."
Today:
Meanwhile, Holman's outburst Thursday upon telling Crean that he was leaving is considered closed. According to an Indiana source, Holman became agitated once Crean told Holman of the process for transferring. The source said Holman was yelling and stormed out of Crean's office. He picked up a plant on a nearby desk and tossed it.
Because he was yelling and angered, campus police were called. Statements were taken but no charges were filed. The incident will be sent to the Dean of Students and could hamper Holman's attempts to transfer.
"Last night and this morning I had the opportunity to apologize to Coach Crean and today I would like to extend that to everyone involved in the program for allowing my frustrations to get the best of me," Holman said in a statement issued by the university Friday. "I appreciate everything Indiana University and coach Crean have done for me and I hope nothing but the best for the program in the future."
Shouldn't he still be in Bloomington County Pysch? Is he no longer a danger to himself? Guy throws a plant and TC turns it into he was trying to kill himself. The hits keep coming.
I'm not sure I necessarily buy that this whole situation was only the fault of Holman's own mental instability. We all know how emotional TC is about, well, everything, and I find it hard to believe TC was able keep his cool after losing ANOTHER big man. Maybe I'm wrong here, but I just find it hard to believe that TC did absolutely nothing to agitate the kid other than telling him the transfer rules. I mean, why would he be so upset upon learning the process for transferring? I have to think he had a good idea about the transferring process before he even set foot in TC's office. Just throwing it out there.

Defaming kids on a message board is pretty low class, DKCL. Don't blame Crean for "leaking" this info. Blame yourself for carelessly posting this s*** on a message board. Take some responsibility for your own actions.

Only posting here, what has been has been said here before and other places. TC loved to throw kids under the bus after they were gone with: "They were beyond repair, I couldn't do a thing".
BTW, I'm not defaming, I'm repeating what I have been led to believe are facts. And actually what I'm doing is repeating what TC has insinuated. I didn't call those guys any of those things, I showed how TC liked to spin illnesses to work his way.
TC said those things publicly? Not saying you're wrong, but cannot remember those comments or insinuations made about a particular illness.
This is all crazy. If we take a look at every word that comes out of his mouth and take everyone of those to the extreme then yes he's throwing kids under the bus. Or he might have just said that he knows a kid plays poker, has a beer or seems to be moody. Is anyone on this board a public figure who has his words scrutinized by a bunch people looking to rake him over the coals?

I call bulls***. Show me where Crean said these things or even intimated these things about Amo and Bell. I follow Marquette hoops and these boards as much as anybody, and I never saw anything remotely close to this on a public board coming from Crean. You read these things as message board rumors, not as statements from Crean. This is purely low class BS.
I'm not a big Amo or Brandon Bell fan, but these kids don't deserve this.
So if I saw those assertions on a "premium" board is it different than a "public" board?
Vike, your boy TC epitimized "low class BS", sorry that you have to now see his dirty laundry.
BTW, how's Dominic James' horrible family financial situation? He should be off to Europle anyday now right? Isn't that what we heard all season? Chalk up another defamation rumor started by the TC propaganda machine.

Sorry, bud. I read the premium board. The things you assert, particularly about Brandon Bell, were never on there. If someone had posted them, they would have been taken down, as your BS post should have been taken down.
Crean is not "my boy." He wasn't "my boy" beginning April 1st of this year. He stabbed all of us in the back. You are putting harmful rumors out there and that is inappropriate. Knock it off.
I'm not going to go into any detail about Dominic's family or personal situation other than to say that Dominic's plan was to go pro after this season. It didn't work out, and he wisely decided to come back and finish his career and get his degree. Dominic has shown a great deal of class and maturity, particularly over the past month. With some continued hard work and dedication, he has a chance to chase his dream next year. I hope he can make it, as he is a first rate kid. Recruiting Dominic is certainly one thing Crean got right...
how about mbakwe's home sickness? did that disappear when TC left? my guess, more TC spin he was throwing at rosiak to cover his a$$ after another transfer!

He's getting his degree two weeks from tomorrow, along with a couple of his classmates. Surely someone as in-depth as you knows this, right?

Crean definitely cited Amoroso by name as a reason that we lost to Alabama. Forget about message boards, that was in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Did Crean publicly say Amo had ADD or a gambling addiction?
I didn't really appreciate Crean's public comments re: Amo, but this specific stuff has gone over the line. It's a hell of a lot different saying that Amo was a reason we lost to Alabama (don't remember that he said that specifically, but I'll take your word for it) and to point out problems like these.

Perhaps you can read these and tell me which is the one where Crean blamed Amoroso.
84, you're wookin' Pa Nub in all da wong paces...He said it in March of 2007. Something along the lines of we don't have the Amoroso distraction this year or last year we had the Amoroso distraction...they just had that pesky Michigan State D distraction...300 Sets, 8 Opening Minutes, Zero Points.
I did a quick search on MUScoop because I remember people discussing this before. I couldn't find a link, but here's a direct quote:
McNeal's injury aside, Crean said he feels like this year's team is much better equipped heading into the NCAAs.
"We had distractions last year with Ryan Amoroso's attitude and that set us back," he said. "We've got such a great group of guys. We'll deal with the injury situation, hopefully do everything we can do to get him back and be totally excited."
Is that enough?

Again, Harvey.... "distractions last year with Ryan Amoroso's attitude.." and now we're comparing that to "ADD and gambling addiction." Two very different things.
I repeat... I didn't like it when Crean said these things, but this is taking it to a whole different level.
Has anyone watched the Wade DVD where Crean would go to the end of the bench when the team was losing, and tell DWade that the loss is all his fault? This was when Wade was ineligible...classy.

Otay!!!! I feel like I found a ruby in a mountain of rock and/or a Coupe De Ville hiding at the bottom of a Cracker Jack box -- a joke amidst all the gnashing of teeth, wringing of hands and general bitchin' and moaning that has dominated this board over the last 4 weeks or so! :-*
Think Crean pressured Mbakwe to come back early?
I thought Mbakwe's 85% comment was telling.
The Holman response to Crean - makes you wonder about How Crean may have handled a Homesick Mbakwe coming into his office in Feb 08. What have you done for me?
