Who's gonna be the first to bitch about this hire?

Not me, but you do realize what you put in bold is from a press release don't you?
I do hope we get someone with Chicago ties at some point, but he may view that space as his. The great news is that Benford worked under Sadler and Sadler is considered a very fine coach.

He sounds like he's qualified to be our head coach.
Was he ahead of Buzz Williams on this list?

He was a top HC prospect as far back as 1999 on a list that included many of the hot young HC's today (Pelfrey, Gonzo, etc). I think he was Associate HC at ASU. Maybe he was tarnished a bit being under Bliss, I don't know (sounds like NMU was clean). But, this sounds like a great hire to complement Buzz--something TC would never commit to early in his regime as a development area (game coaching).
Other than his familiarity with Buzz, his might have been a factor in the hire:
Benford worked primarily with the big men in the Husker program, including first-team All-Big 12 selection Aleks Maric, who finished his career in 2008 ranked in the top five in career scoring at NU and second all-time in rebounds.

Way to go, Buzz!
You're probably reading MUScoop before making this selection! :)
