There is a proud tradition of military aviators using tactical callsigns. Some are a play on a guy's last name (these are all authentic guys I know):
"Itchy" Rash
"Sportin" Wood
"Horse" Koch
"Horse" Cochrane
"Panty" Shields
"All Beef" Franks
"Log" Yule
"Doc" Holliday
"Finger" Poynter
"Family" Jewels
"Skid" Rowe
"Skid" Marks
"Gee" Spott
"Ima" Cummin
The very best, though, are earned. There are many examples but most need some explanation. There is one -earned by a fellow Marquette alum actually - that needs no explanation. That one is "Judas" Mathis. It speaks for itself. In fact, when people met him the immediate response was alway, "Wow, who'd you buddy screw to get that call sign?"
I think that our former coach earned his call sign in the time honored way of the warrior. Only problem is that self-centered prick ain't no warrior. Nobody wants a selfish bastard like that for a wingman, ever.
