Title: Rankings this week
Post by: tckmu24 on December 18, 2006, 07:45:59 AM
Where do you think we will be when the new polls come out today?  I was just checking it out and the only team close to us that lost was Gonzaga (16 in both polls).  We may move up a spot in the AP, but probably stay the same in the coaches as long as we don't get leap-frogged.  I am saying #19 in AP, and #22 in coaches.  Any othere thoughts?

Anywhere in the top 25 is fine.   That way we get scrolled across the bottom of hte screen much more often.

The cbs.sportsline poll had us up one spot from #20 to #19 as Gonzaga slipped from #17 to #24.  Might be indicative of what we'll see in the "real" polls.

yeah that was the zags third loss of the year.  just based on that fact, i think they will drop below us in both polls.  i'd guess we'll move up a spot in each...

Hard to tell (though we'll know soon enough).  I'd say we stay the same in both.  If we win the next 3 (as we should), I'd see us gradually moving up and hovering around 18 until conference play starts.

Winning at providence will be the next real test for this team, and I wouldn't expect the voters to do much with our ranking until after that game.

wow.. what did UConn do to be dropped from #8 to #11 (and be leapfrogged by Wichita state, arizona, and alabama)?

in the last week:
UConn defeated Saint Mary's 89-73
Wichita State defeated Maryland-Eastern Shore 102-46
Arizona defeated Houston 87-62
Alabama defeated Southern Miss 77-64

I can kind of see Wichita State being given some props for their huge landslide of a win but still..............

same thing happened with OklaSU jumping three spots over two teams (LSU and washington) that won games even though they played none.  and washington dropped three games to boot.. thinking oregon got a little shaft by being leapfrogged by clemson (who played no games) despite winning their two games this week by 28 and 26 pts.

very strange.. even for a popularity contest.

Not stange.  They've only played one opponent with an RPI better than 150, and none better than 100.

then why would they be ranked #8 to start with?  why would this rpi fact suddenly assert itself in this week's poll?  still strange in my book.. the ap poll definitely makes more sense.. much more consistent from last week to this week.. winners tended to move up, losers tended to move down.. very little leapfrogging without an obvious reason.
