• Good for Buzz Williams, who got the Marquette job as an assistant. Not a lot of assistants get head coaching jobs of this stature. But let's also not dismiss what happened a year ago. Last summer, Williams walked out on the New Orleans job. Jim Miller, the Privateers' athletic director, trashed Williams in July for leaving. The situation was dire at the time but Cal assistant Joe Pasternack walked in there and made them winners. At the time, Williams felt he was being misled and that the situation was worse off than he had imagined. His rebound from that situation to getting the head coaching job at Marquette is quite remarkable and rather unheard of in today's climate. Marquette's choice to replace Crean with Williams creating little buzz (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3336811)

Regarding the second article, once Dominic James playing career ends, we should hire the guy and fast track him. This is the kind of guy I want representing Marquette University.

I'd make him a player/coach this year if its legal.

That brings up a good point. OSU is asking Self to come "home". Other universities do it to, ask a Head Coach from another university to return to their alma mater to help restore them to greatness.
There's Jim Boylan and Doc Rivers, but they both seem to be NBA guys. Todd Townsend, Jon Harris and Brian Wardle are in the Assistant ranks in the NCAA's. Other then that, are their any former Marquette players out there that could be possible hire 5-15 years from now?

Lurch, 5-15 years from now?? You think Brent is going to last 5 years??? I think the real over/under on him is more like 3. ;D

I always thought Diener would end up coaching Marquette at some point in time. I have no idea when that will be but I could see it happening.

No no no, it's that I don't think Jon Harris, Brian Wardle or Todd Townsend (or any other recent MU coaching grad) will be ready to take the reigns for at LEAST 5 years from now. That's why I'm asking, generally most need at least 10 years experience/seasoning before they take over a (mid) major program like Marquette's.
