Title: Timing of Announcement
Post by: CTWarrior on April 08, 2008, 09:02:18 AM
On top of everything else, even the timing of the announcement makes it seem like they were trying to sneak it under the radar.  It breaks during the national championship game?  Nobody is talking about MU today except us.  It's like they're trying to screw this up.

This was exactly the point I made last night.  If you want lots of coverage, you don't unveil youe new coach opposite the national championship game.  If you want it to get lost in the shuffle, you do make the announcement.

This is embarassing.

This is on the front page of ESPN.com, Yahoo! Sports and CBS Sportsline. It was on Fox Sports' front page last night. It was covered by the Chicago Tribune.

If you really believe this would have been major headlines across the country or received any more press had Marquette waited a day, you're kidding yourselves. Watch what happens when LSU hires its coach and see if that garners any more attention.

I don't know. Everything seems ex post to have been made on Friday, if not Thursday.

- Board of Trustees announced to meet on Thursday night for a Friday meeting
- Buzz supporters converge onto the internet Friday afternoon after the BOT lets out
- Rosiak does a piece on Friday night or Sat morning about Buzz being back in town
- Either Rosiak or someone does a piece about Buzz being #1 after MU interviews a whole whopping 3 candidates sometime on Friday or maybe Sat morning at the latest

I would guess that by Thurs afternoon or so Cottingham had probably called Grant, Bennett, and Miller and then decided Buzz was the next person to interview / propose an offer for.
