Not only do I COMPLETELY disagree with this hire...
you announce it opposite the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP game?
Anyone in PR would tell you this is a huge mistake. We will get NO press for this announcement given the fact that an UNBELIEVABLE championship game will completely overshadow it.
Nice job, Cottingham. Crean caught you totally off guard and you proceeded to show how completely unqualified you are for the job.

It's on the front page of ESPN.com
http://espn.go.com/
Nice call.
Maybe that was the point. No press means less embarrassment.
Great point, union. Save us the embarassment.
I think it's spelled "doofus"?
And tonight's as good a time as any to announce it, as it will be across the crawl during ESPN's post-game coverage.
Also on the front page of Yahoo! Sports.
http://sports.yahoo.com/
This lack of coverage is embarrassing.
Front page of Fox Sports too.
http://msn.foxsports.com/
Right below the White Sox game. Brilliant.

Front page of the Urinal too...guess no UW players were arrested today.

Oh, below the White Sox game. I guess it qualifies as NO coverage if it's only listed as the seventh biggest sports story in the nation.
Now who's the doofus?
If you're looking for the 7th or 8th best headline of the night then you and I have different expectations for Marquette basketball.
Even the first report of Crean taking the IU job was just on the sidebar of ESPN.com.
Short of talking Dean Smith out of retirement to take the job, I don't think any hire would have gotten us more than that, no matter what day or time.

Yes, I can see it now ... ESPN breaks into its NCAA post-game coverage to announce the hiring of Chris Lowery as Marquette's new head coach.
Get serious. The sports-loving public isn't on edge waiting to see who a smallish Jesuit university in Milwaukee is going to hire as its next head basketball coach.
This from the same guy who's been touting the hire based off of mentions on Yahoo! and Foxsports.com

What?
I've simply been refuting your silly comment about the hire generating NO coverage. Obviously you were wrong about that. Within a few hours its among the top stories on some of the leading sports sites out there.
Seems like coverage to me.
If you consider that coverage, congratulations. Eat it up.
