Title: Excited about BUZZBALL.
Post by: non-ripe on April 07, 2008, 10:06:29 PM
This is my first post ever and I would like all to know that I am excited about Buzzball.  Half you idiots out there will complain about anything and that is why I read this site with a seriously large grain of salt.  I have logged many hours on here being a fan and staying updated all season. And now i think we have a coach that has worked under some pretty respected Head Coaches plus it has been said many times that he is a great recruiter, which may be the most important thing of all in BE basketball. I love the fact that our team feels burned and wants to come back show everyone what TC left behind. This is not homerun, but it can definitely work out and our program is not set back in the short term at all. Anyone that thinks some nerds on muscoop can protest this hiring and it will make any difference needs a reality check. The Buzzball era begins.

I sure hope you are right.... Maybe because I went to school during the Majerus / Dukiet eras, I have my reservations about lightly proven head coaches at MU.

Let's see what happens at the end of BEast play next year.

and let's put it this way.  If he's unproven, then at least he's our unproven - we know more about him (tha admon) then any other unproven and some proven coaches.  So....it's time to hit our supporting shot at the BUZZer!  Go Buzz!  Take us up!

Here here!!!!!   We know he can recruit.  In terms of X's & O's, TC wasn't really that tough of a bar to jump over.  Just look at end of game situations - always a disaster w/o Novak.  If Buzz can keep up on his recruiting & be just better-than-average on the X's & O's, it will work our great.  The only things that I'm worried about is a drop-off in intensity.  I'll give TC that, he was always intense and had his players play w/ heart.  Not to say that Buzz can't bring the same intensity, but it will be tough.

I'm with the crowd that wants to support the new Head Coach and is excited to see what this change brings to the team...but I am not crazy at all about the term "Buzzball"  :P

"Buzz" is good enough by itself.

On the bright side, hopefully we'll have less season ending football injuries to our star players.

Seriously, next year should still be a fun team.  Buzz can't be worse with Xs and Os than Crean.

He will play uptempo ball with a focus on the treys. This is BE basketball.  Buzz has a national Rolodex, and a great recruiter is critical for the MU job.  For a young guy to have many stops, it also means he has many contacts.  He improved the situation at each stop.  TC was at a lot of places too when he was younger.  They even mentioned during tonight's game how both Cal and Self started at Kansas as student assistants.  How many stops have they been to since?

He has a big question mark but he comes highly recommended.  I was debating this the other day...would an AD be bold enough to hire a young Al McGuire from an NAIA school?  Or a Dick Bennett when we hired Dukiet.  In retrospect, both would have been great hires for MU, but only one was.  Let's hope there is something here.  I am actually excited with this choice over the other four (ex Bennett or Miller).

Go Warriors!

Tamera and Jeff are not pleased.

Great to see some support.  I really like the idea of having a strong recruiter, and I hope Buzz can live up to that bill.  Look at your national champions: many people think Bill Self is pretty much an idiot, but the guy can recruit like none other.  Buzz hasn't been at a program with our facilities and hasn't been the head coach at a high-level program.  It says there's a ton of potential for him to bring in great players.  Plus if he follows the philosophy of letting good players play, we'll get to see fun fun basketball.  I'm optimistic about this.  What I'm concerned about and eager to see is what kind of ability he has based on his connections to put together a solid staff.
