Sorry fellow MUScoopers, but its going to happen, I've confirmed it. No need for personal messages, let the entire world know that Buzz Williams will be named the new Warriors coach tomorrow.
Why, you may ask? Because, as I have also confirmed, Crean wanted it to happen. Yes, we can't rid ourselves of the plague, aka Tom Crean. He pushed very hard for Buzz and pushed very hard to all the right people, namely the major donors. He convinced them that Williams should be hired.
Ah, shiit

I'm very disappointed that the major reason they would hire Buzz is because he was Tom Crean's choice. That's just a shocker!
i'm also shocked that crean's input is valued at all, after he's not even part of the program.
what is your connection anyways?

You have got to be f'in kidding me. What an absolute joke.
Of course TC is backing this idiot. His legacy will be twice as big in three years. Do you think Buzz outrecruits TC anytime soon? MU is making biggest mistake is school history. Any true fan should call and protest this hire. UW Whitewater would not hire this clown.

Well, he better confirm our recruiting class is in place or it will be bedlam around here tomorrow.
He better not be making more than 6k for more than a year.

I can't say at this time, but believe it is true. I have no reason to bs my fellow brothers and sisters.
this will be a great senior year... and to think, 3 years ago I came to MU w/ James, McNeal, and Matthews thinking about watching the cut down the nets and running down Wisconsin Ave.
Ah, FUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKKK.
Who cares about the current recruiting class. New coach equals new system. Give me a great coach and screw the recruits. Don't look at the short term. MU is hiring a the wrong coach because:
1. Recruits. That is like what AI said about practice. Recruits? We are talking recruits?
2. TC wants his legacy to look better.
3. He is cheap.
4. AD knows nothing about major sports.
MU fans need to protest this joke. Screw the complaining on here. Protest the PC, cancel tickets. I am serious, this is that big of a mistake.
If he's hired, I'll support him. Like hell I won't go to games my senior year and beyond, but this is embarrassing.
I will say that his coming here always struck me as a bit odd, leaving a head coaching job, the money MU paid him - made/makes me wonder if he wasn't brought in for this exact reason - some sort of succession plan, even if they didn't know specifically when it would be enacted. For all we know, Crean has been pumping him for the better part of the last year.
I had a feeling f'ing Crean had something to do with this. Unbelievable....why doesn't the BOT or Cottingham grow a pair and make their own frickin decision. Cottingham never should've gotten the AD job and Buzz should never have gotten the head coaching job...what a mess. We will now be a perennial bottom half Big East team....similar to Providence, Rutgers, etc....sad but true.
I will not be renewing my season tickets....this decision is yet another embarrassment.

GYMBAR- i've noticed that you're possibly more against this hire than anybody else. i'm not a fan of buzz being the choice either (at all, in fact, this makes us look desperate), but are there reason other than those you just listed for why there's so much intense hatred? again, i'm very unhappy, too. that said, protesting seems extreme.

Or maybe it's soooo obvious that Buzz is the choice and you're just as upset as the rest of us. Instead of admitting that Crean leaving was not a good thing for Marquette, you'll now conveniently be able to blame Crean for our coach. I'm sure if Buzz does well and leaves, it will be because Crean told him to. Or, if Buzz sucks then it's Crean's fault. When either of those things happen, Crean will be on the phone to someone at MU and pick Buzz's successor.
It's a convenient story as it provides complete vindication for 4everwarriors. Regardless, it's clear that Chicos, me, and others were right in believing that we were better off with Crean than without him.
That said, I will fully support Buzz and hopes he turns out to be a combination of Phil Jackson, John Wooden and Coach K.
BS--
You get no second chances in hires these days. 35 years as a season ticket holder and fan, quite honestly feel sick to my stomach. Send my kid there at $35K a year and they obviously have no leadership in athletics. Allowing TC to pick a coach is beyond a joke. This is MAJOR college bball, not YMCA.
'nuff said. thanks, gymbar
Oh no what will Marquette do, Buzz will run this program into the ground. Forget he's landed O'tule, Erik Williams, Taylor and fulce in 6 months....this guy knows nothing about basketball.
Its obvious that everyone on this board knows way more the the new AD....I can't believe Marquette could be so stupid.

I wouldn't be venturing out to say that 85% of this board knows more about College Basketball than the new AD.
It's not just negativity about Buzz Williams or hatred of TC. People talk about TC's legacy as taking us from a mid-major to the BE and bringing MU to where it is today. When TC was fired I thought this 'legacy' would allow us to raid a decent school to get an established coach. I thought that the dice-rolling on assistants was over.

Are those guys the Fab 5? He didn't land Taylor, by the way.
It's not the hiring that bothers me as much as the idea that the bozos making the decisions are still listening to that COMPLETE DICK Tom Crean! Who gives a crap what he thinks? Now the guy is going after Jamil Wilson and we're taking advice from him?
though buzz may be great, the biggest mistake any business can make is to let the former leader pick his replacement. hope that did not happen here.

Ugh oh. PRN, is Buzz Williams better or worse than Crean? I'm curious. Which would you rather have?
Does anyone SERIOUSLY think there is a single soul outside of maybe Doc Rivers within a leadership position at MU that's taking advice from Crean? That's crazy. Wild, Cottingham and the rest are equally pissed about this situation and if you're kidding yourselves if you don't believe that.
If Buzz Williams is the choice after a 5-day search, blame the administration for it's complete and total incompetence. Even if, a huge if, Crean is calling the shots on this, BLAME THE ADMINISTRATION. It's their decision. They're in charge.
You guys are unreal.
For what it's worth, I support Buzz. It's not like I'm going to start rooting for the Hoosiers. ;D

After having his recruiting prowess shoved down my throat for the last 5 days he better damn well recruit the next fucking fab 5. Taylor's gone. Otule is raw. Fulce is limited. That's our monster recruiting prowess at work.
PRN -- you and I are together on this. This is not an "aggressive" search like Cotting(S)ham said it would be.

We didn't land Iman Shumpert... our #1 choice.
Our only hope - He gets charged with drunk driving or being with a hooker.

Hear, hear....This is cardinal rule #1. If this is true, this administration is on the junior varsity in a big way. Of course if he's consulted, TC is going to back Buzz. He shouldn't ever have been consulted, nor should he have been given an audience for his input. If this is true, bush leaguers are running the show, ducking for cover. Sounds like the Baird School to me.
So he gets O'Tule (a two star recruit) and Fulce who can't afford another year out of D1. He's losing Taylor and Williams. Comforting. I have two words for you if they hire Williams...De Paul.
From the people that brought you 'Gold'.

inappropriate...
For the record... he did get Taylor. He was a HUGE reason Taylor verbaled. In fact, when Taylor decided on Mu he told Buzz not Crean he was coming to MU. Having said that, that crusty old Hurley will likely prevent Taylor from making his way here.
I would doubt that Crean would have much influence - he left our University in a lurch, wtihout warning, without a request to talk to another school or them requestin git of us, etc. Maybe he put a good word in for Buzz because really maybe he likes him. But I doubt that was the deciding factor. It would be the ultimate of lunacy.
This is as bad as "Gold", but it's also not the aggressive, put your money where your mouth is search I was hoping for. This damn message board got me all pumped we might still have a shot at Bennett. Damn! I hope this guy can start recruiting big timers.
After watching tonight's championship, it is very evident how much more athletic and polished the top tier teams really are.
I think a lot of our MU shock is that we all have blinders on to where MU really stands in the world of college basketball. Probably, at best, 2nd tier, but maybe even 3rd tier.
Its not just the players in tonights game that are more polished
What a bad hire!! While I never thought the administration was competent but I cannot believe they choose this guy. Lowery would have been a much better choice. TC leaving was a great opportunity since he hit his ceiling 2 years ago. Now we have a coach that comes from the TC tree. Now TC will look like a genius since this guy is going to crash the program into the mountain. A clean break and a new basketball philosophy is what is needed. Also the head of the board is from Baird Advisors(Mary Ellen Stan) and works in the fixed income area. If you have any money at Baird advisors I recommend you take it out NOW since she obviously has no idea what the hell she is doing. Also, what the hell is someone from fixed income doing being in charge of the board. Of course she is going to be risk averse since she works in Fixed Income.
