Just on Madison Sports Radio (my home for Marquette basketball) that sources close to the Marquette administration have indicated that an announcement will be made tomorrow, and that it will be current assistant coach Buzz Williams.
unimpressed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please no.
We might as change our name to "Gold" while we are at it.
BOOOO
If this holds truth...we sure as hell better not lose any recruits.
To go through all this and end up with that.........$2 million and we couldn't lure anyone away?!?!?!?!?

If true - c'mon - give the guy a chance. Gold we all KNEW was a bad decision.
Buzz *may* be a bad decision, but to bash him before you see what he can do seems a little premature.
Or, instead of pulling a rabbit out of the hat did MU settle?
I guess we find out tomorrow
:-\
I'll withhold judgment until the official announcement.
Terribly unimpressed if this is true. This guy should have been waaaaaay down the list.
Please be wrong. Please be wrong. Please be wrong.
lame
This is not a good choice at all – it's about settling for the mediocre choice. This is the equivalent of going home with the fat chick at the end of the night. Why didn't they look into lowery or the Baylor coach. Both guys have a track record and one of them probably would have come on board. Williams has a track record of switching jobs and taking bad jobs too (see new Orleans why would anyone go there . . Really).
This hire makes us look mid-major.
i also heard buzz from a dance team girl that said she overheard while working at the AL. not the most credible source but its not looking good for bennett- i hope they were talking about buzz staying on as assistant?!
My problem with this is that there are several very successful programs and blueprints out there for running a major basketball program. If we were going to hire an assistant, we should have looked to those programs for an assistant that was ready.
Buzz Williams is not that guy.
That is not how you hire a coach...
Our dance team works out?

Well, the report came out of Moscow. Maybe it's a red herring?
I called this move a couple days ago. We couldn't land any of the bigger names that we wanted, so they must have felt that Buzz was the next logical choice. We'll see in time if this was the right decision. Let's move forward and focus on next season! 3 starting Seniors and Lazar. It should be a fun season. FIRE UP MARQUETTE FIRE UP!

working, not working out. also, i heard this a while ago but did not post cause its not credible. i just did now because someone else said they heard it
keeping my fingers crossed because madison radio and MU dance team girls have about the same credability- very little ;)
This is a critical time for MU basketball. In the past 5 years, MU has been to the final four, their star player went on to lead his team to the NBA, we moved to the Big East, were on TV more than any other season I can remember, has national pub through the Converse ads and now . . .
We blow it by hiring a guy we've settled for. Very disappointing.
If this is true it is a frickin joke. Another stupid decision...first Warriors, then the Gold now this?! Way to keep the momentum. I thought our days of hiring assistant coaches were over....guess not.
I will have to think about whether or not I'm going to renew my season tickets.
Pathetic.
Mosarsaur - the point is this is nothing to get "fired up" about. We just went looking for a coach and completely whiffed. If this is true we got a guy with less qualifications than the most recent hires at Depaul, ND, UWGB, Northwestern, or even UWM. Now, ask yourself if a team like Lasalle, for instance, would even INTERVIEW him?

Yeah, I'm gonna hold off for little myself until I hear this from someone other than
Steve and Craig.

Does anyone else find it odd that in our Internet age, the only place reporting on a new MU coach is a radio station in Madison?
It has been an hour. Why hasn't anyone else reported it yet?
It could very well be correct, but it makes me wonder!
Seems fishy to me too. I just don't buy it.
The very next show on that radio station had an interview with Tim Brando and someone else. Brando mentioned the DeCourcey interview from his show this morning. Just reiterated what DeCourcey had said. The hosts (one of which owns Marquette's flagship station 540) didn't bring anything up. Of course they're in San Antonio, so they probably weren't listening to their own top of the hour newsbreak.

This does not make us look mid-major.
No respectable mid-major would hire an assistant who was hired 9 or so months ago during their annual last second hires of assistant coaches by an ass of a head coach. No respectable mid-major would hire an assistant that is based at least somewhat on the claim that two of the current recruits just might be swayed to still come to campus. No respectable mid-major would end a search after apparently only interviewing 3 guys (as was basically claimed on Friday when it was announced that Buzz was the frontrunner after 3 guys said no).
This makes us look flat out incompetent.

Who knows if Lasalle would interview him. If we couldn't get Bennett, Miller, Grant and whoever else was on our list and Buzz eventually is announced as the HC tomorrow, then we should move forward.
It doesn't take much for me to get excited about MU Basketball...and it has nothing to do with whoever the head coach is. When I was younger I got excited every season whether the coach was Raymonds, Majerus, Dukiet, or O'Neill. When I was a student during the Deane years, I still got excited. The point is, we've got a good solid team with some great senior leadership. Would YOU rather have had TC at the helm next season? My guess would be "no".
We couldn't get the guys we REALLY wanted so we interviewed a few other guys and maybe Buzz turned into the best remaining option. He was not my first choice either, but let's see if we can make some lemonade out of this situation.
