Boy, TC must have sold Tyshawn the whole store if he's so adamant about wanting out.

or Hurley is aggressively recruiting other kids to his program, using his aggressive posture as proof positive of his stature.

well, then, Hurley's an ass. Jeez, this is high-school basketball. It's not like he's at North Carolina or UCLA.

This is like a giant game of telephone.  Has Hurley/Taylor said anything new since Thursday?  It looks like we are recycling the same original story over and over.  It changes because everyone slightly rewrites the original story and four days later it looks like new information.

Can anyone confirm that Hurley/Taylor have said anything new since Thursday?

A few points . . .

1) Why has it taken Drew so long to get in the mix.  He has done an amazing job at Baylor.
2) Hurley is taken it too far, but he's protecting his player.  Someone has to - the system sucks for players in situations like Taylor.
3) Terrible article by Howard.  It offers no insight and no clear point of view.  What's his point?
4) If Drew isn't in the mix, I think I like Lowery over Buzz.

So long?  If he's in the mix, it took 3 or 4 days.  That seems lighting fast.

Well, obviously we should be completely over everything by now and in love with Crean for bringing us back from the dark ages, and apparently for finding a way to get enough money for shoes into the budget.  I mean it's been a whole 6 days already - how can we not have forgotten everything by now?

That article made me want to hate Howard, and did nothing for my opinion of Crean.
Quotea school that barely had enough sneakers for its players in the mid-1990s
WTF is that?

QuoteSo why was Crean singing the blues early Friday morning, just days after his stealth defection from the Jesuit school he led back to basketball respectability?

Tom Crean has always cared, almost too much, about how he is perceived, not just locally but nationally.

And he is fully aware that his abrupt departure to Indiana University blindsided an entire community.
:'(  :'(  :'(  Give me a break.  If you cared so much about being loved, you would have told the team before ESPN did.  You wouldn't have completely blindsided everybody.  You have your "dream job" - go and be happy.  You can't have both that job and the respect of this entire fanbase.

I love the fact that Crean told Howard we averaged 7,200 fans before he arrived. Our former coach is so full of sh*t his skin is turning brown.

Last week I posted an article from the Chicago Tribune that Brian Hamilton wrote about Crean. In the article, it was stated how only seven people showed up the summer after Crean was hired for a "Coffee, Crean, and Donuts" event, and that "hundreds of students lined up outside the hotel in Bloomington where Crean was staying the night before being introduced as head coach".

I wrote Hamilton, told him I didn't think he was giving an accurate reflection of Marquette fans support of the program, that it wasn't an apples to apples comparison (summer event, smaller private university, out of school VS large state univesity, in session). The Crean/MU event probably was poorly attended, but under the circumstances of the timing of it, it's easy to see why.

Here's what Hamilton wrote back:

It was Crean's first few months at Marquette, and I'm analogizing it to what his first few months at Indiana might be like.  And frankly, Crean himself was using that anecdote to demonstrate how limited the interest was when he first arrived.

So I'm not sure I'm the one you should be emailing.  Maybe get in touch with Tom and ask him to rescind the anecdotes he's using to make a point.

TC didn't cite the 7,200 number......or Howard (presumably) would have been obligated to report it as such.

Most likely, this is Howard being too lazy to actually complete a base level of reporting to prepare for this column.

Howard is an editor, he should know better.

From the time Crean showed up, I was a big fan.  He brought great energy to the program and there's no denying that he was successful at MU.

But this constant hammering of MU before Crean arrived is so full of crap it makes me want to puke.  MU was a program on the rise from the time O'Neill was hired.  Its final year under Deane was a bad one, but the previous 4 were good years.  Cords saved the program from sinking by making the bold move to replace Deane before the program was in a state of decline.

Screw Crean and his savior mentality and shame on Hamilton for writing the crap Crean is giving him.
