... when one considers that in the tournament MU had to beat Creighton, Illinois, Kentucky, Colorado and, in the finals, Michigan State.
That is a much tougher road to the championship than some teams in the NCAA tournament have had to follow.
I think Marquette's winning the WNIT is an outstanding accomplishment and much more impressive than some might think or be willing to acknowledge.
at least three of those games came on the road, too. Congratulations, ladies.
Adding to the list of reasons to be impressed is that:
-During the regular season, the longest winning streak Marquette had was two games. In the WNIT, they won 5 in a row.
-They won three in a row on the road in their last 3 games of the WNIT.
The semi-final game at Colorado and this game at MSU were the two best games they played all season in my opinion. They've had troubles with turnovers all season and the stat of the MSU game for me was their 22 assists to 13 turnovers. Krystal Ellis had her second double double of the season with 15 points and 11 assists.
I want to say thank you to Marquette for putting together a bus trip for the game and the cost was cheap - $25 for bus and ticket and the game ticket. There were 2 buses and a lot of people made the trip to the game on their own - there was a nice, loud Marquette contingent there.
I can't begin to express how excited I am about next season - this was great experience for a young team. With only one starter graduating and 4 recruits coming in next season, they should be back in NCAA contention.
I had so much fun at the game and got to go down on the court afterwards and take pics as they cut down the nets - that was fun to watch. I'm so happy for this team and the coaches.
