Title: money
Post by: bilsu on April 05, 2008, 03:26:41 PM
I wonder how much money enter into this. Is MU willing to pay what they have been paying Crean. Remember Crean's salary jumped because of final 4. MU did not get much payback on that. Also, you have to consider the Strong effect. Back then Dick Strong was riding high and willing to kick in big bucks to keep Crean. His business was destroyed by the recently ousted New York governor, so while I am sure he is still well off, I am not so sure he is well off enough to throw big bucks after some other coach. My guess is that MU is not that willing to pay big bucks to a new coach. I certainly do not see them paying more than they were paying Crean. I think throwing $2,000,000 at Bennett would get him here, but what has done to justify that. I think that is why we end up with Buzz. No buyout and a salary closer to $600,000 that $1,600,000. If Buzz does well he will be compensated, if not he will not cost much to get rid of.

I'd say mu still got way more gain in what they paid crean since 2003 then you imply.  the exposure was huge, 3 straight ncaa appearances which hasn't happened since 1980

Spitzer might have been a hypocrite but Strong put himself in a bad position. Strong's business was hurt by his own decisions.Don't blame one person's problems on someone else because  they had their own problems.

If by "problems" you mean "being attacked by a thug politician on a personal agenda to destroy the financial services industry in New York" then yeah, people like Dick Strong had problems.
