Title: maybe we should have hired a search committee...
Post by: SCdem@MU on April 05, 2008, 06:28:47 AM
clearly Steve Cottingham has no idea what he is doing if he has already moved on to Buzz after striking out with Bennett, Miller, and Grant.

Why on earth have we not expanded the search? Personally if our top choices all strike out I would give the following coachs a ring:

Travis Ford - Umass head coach (believed to be interested in LSU)
Oliver Purnell - Clemson head coach
David Rose -BYU head coach
Brian Gregory - Dayton head coach
Fran Dunphy - Temple head coach
Bob Williams - UCSB head coach
Bill Grier - USD head coach
Dana Altman - Creighton head coach
Frank Martin - K-STATE head coach

Down here in ATL I have heard some good things about Paul Hewitt at Georgia Tech and Dennis Felton at Georgia.  I have absolutely no idea what the chances are of either of them leaving their current position, so I humbly request that those of you with knowledge of recruiting abilities feel free to shoot these guys down if I'm off base.

The last thing we want is to hire Williams after we dragged this out a month. if we hire Williams do it early so he does not appear to be the last resort.

Consider this .....

Right now Buzz is the lifeline to the recruits and the team.  We have to keep him motivated to stay on the phones and keep everyone's morale high.  How can he do that if he's been not being seriously considered to replace TC?

Just because he is being seriously interviewed my or maynot mean something.  We are reading too much into it.

Look at the process Greenspan went through when hiring in IU.  The day before he hired TC, he was consider incompetent or worse.  He had weeks of failure and embarrassment from the Sampson firing to April 1.

These processes are always chaotic and haphazard.  It is everywhere.  It was at IU.  It is now and MU.

Frank Martin???????

You didn't watch the UW-KSU game did you.  His coaching was beyond awful in that game.

I did not. From that list Fran Dunphy and Travis Ford would be my top two.

Im shocked Fran Dunphy hasn't gotten more interest... did a lot at UPENN with lackluster talent, knows the east coast recruiting trail very well, and already has temple back on track, which was god-awful under Chaney. He would also continue to graduate players and keep the program free of NCAA violations and off the court issues.

Travis Ford is probably my top choice b/c of his proven recruiting record and similar style of play.
