So, Tom Crean is all about family.
That was the first thing he talked about in his press conference (ad nauseum, by the way) -- his family. He stressed it over and over - his love for his blood family and his love for his basketball family. They were everything to him. Did he not say to his recruitments that they would be part of a great Marquette family??? Well he sold out his Marquette family - the family he had for nine years. It's the way that he did it that is so disappointing and so unfair to everyone who has supported him from day one. Everyone was blindsided. That's loyalty?? It was never about Marquette- he sold out his Marquette family for himself. It was always about himself..................
It seems to me that Dominic James has his head on better than anyone else. He was part of Crean's family and realizes Crean made a business decision. DJ also talked about it being about Marquette for himself. We will see how long this lasts.
Crean also realizes what happens to people like his brother in law Jim Harbaugh when they are forced to change franchises in professional sports. We are kidding ourselves if we think college basketball isn't a business. It sounds like Marquette had a buyout on his contract as well Crean or another university having to buy him out from MU. Crean made a decision to change stages because he felt the other one was bigger and there was more money for him and his family.
Crean and boosters built a nice business including players, facilities, and reputation. The university needs to make some good business decisions to keep quality personnel, reputation, and find someone who can manage their franchise. Change is something most of us didn't want, but it can also provide opportunity.
