This has nothing to do with Crean. I was already thinking this before Crean left.
I believe North Carolina's stock piling of talent is going to return college basketball back to the UCLA days were one team wins year after year. I fully expect North Carolina to walk through the toughest final four ever. They have three recruits for next year that were in this yerar's McDonald's All-American game and already have commitments from super juniors and sophomores. With the possible exception of UCLA, what program really has a chance to beat them. I think North Carolina is going to go on a major run. I do not think this is good for college baskeball. The only way this ends if a large number of North Carolina players turn pro at once.
Anybody with a couple McDonald's AAs can string together a couple of wins in March. NC might win this weekend., but would any of the teams winning shock you? Crean just has to get close to the talent level of North Carolina, and he has a shot to win a couple. Plus, I still favor a team of kids that are excellent ballplayers and stay in school for 2 to 3 years, over outstanding players who are off to the league after year one.
