Title: If MU loses in 1st round to KU,
Post by: mviale on April 03, 2008, 10:01:38 AM
does IU think about going elsewhere?  Does the message board and fanbase call for a new direction?

it's UK but that is an interesting question.   If the last 5 minutes of the Holy Cross NCAA game don't go Marquette's way where would we be.

In the end - Could Mike Deane have recruited a Dwade?

Was Deane that bad at 65% (100-55)
Was Crean that good at 66% (190-96) or was he a better PR guy or did he have a bigger budget?

Deane inherited a very solid roster (Eford, Miller, McCaskill, Hutchins, Peiper, Crawford, Abraham, Shaw) whereas Crean didn't have the same kind of talent on board.  That's why Crean's percentage is more impressive than Deane's.

Deane played in the GMC and then CUSA.  Crean played in a loaded CUSA at the end and then the Big East.....Crean gets the nod....better competition, better athletes.

The real villan here, despite the way Crean blew out of town without even properly talking to his own team is Kelvin Sampson.

If he wasn't such a douchebag, none of this would have happened, for now at least.

I think we have all been drinking too much koolaid and we will be fine if not better.

Somehow I agree - when the dust settles, and a year or two pass (ugh), I think we might look back at this and think that this was a blessing in disguise that we lost Crean (still NOT the WAY he left tho - I can't help but be upset with that).

However, we MUST hire a first-rate, first-class recruiter/coach now or we may regret all this.  But we have the opportunity to do that - we better make the right decision now on who will captain our ship.

Crean had us on the upswing with the recruits we were going to get.  Deane was on the downswing.  Also a final four is a final four.
