One thing that irked me about that second article was this:
"Again, it's somewhat familiar ground. The summer after Marquette hired Crean, the basketball program tried to burn off a fog of apathy with an event called "Coffee, Crean and Donuts." Seventeen people showed up.
Tuesday night, outside the Hilton Garden Inn in Bloomington, a group of Indiana students serenaded their new basketball coach with the school fight song. The challenge is the same. The place is oh-so-different."
So this guy is comparing a summer event, which I'm going out on a limb and guessing many/most students are not at campus for, to an event at a state university, in session? Sounds like apples to apples to me.
Had the MU "event" been Brats, Beer, and Crean; I think you would have seen thousands show up. Clearly the atheletic department botched that one.
PS - that entire article was terrible.
we should also remember that the marquette community was very divided on the firing of Mike Deane - many felt that the program was fine and he was replaced by an assistant coach with no fanfare - the situation is a bit different since Crean has be boosted by Dwade and the 3 amigos.
