I get his point of view, but I also get the school's.

I think it's more than reasonable to hold him to his letter for a couple weeks until Sean Miller (please?) meets with him. Then let Sean and Tyshawn work it out together. If he doesn't want to be here, don't force him to be here. But give us a chance by holding on until Sean talks with him.
Not sure I remember this correctly but was Crean paying for Taylor's $100k scholarship? Ohhh... that's right it was Marquette University! You sign the LOI to the school, not the coach. I hope MU waits to release all these kids until after the new coach has a chance to talk to them. If the kids still want out, then let them go but revoke their offer and limit where they can go.
Besides... didn't Taylor say that it was Buzz that recruited him to MU?? From Rosiak's blog...
""I think the only way I end up at Marquette is if Coach Williams gets the head-coaching job, or if Coach Williams and another one of the assistants is still there," he said. "Coach Williams recruited me and I really want to play for him. I think that's probably the only way.""
What's really going on here? ?-(

Crean knows Hurley really well, I'm pretty sure this was a phone call from Hurley to Crean some time back saying Taylor would fit in great in your system.
Ironically it might be Crean that helps MU here.
Crean knows he going to lose big next year. Smooth talking Taylor to go to IU does not change that. Telling Taylor "good luck with your life" makes all the statements Crean makes about caring about "his kids" bs in the eyes of Hurley. Either could sully his reutation with Hurley, if Hurley thinks Crean is using Taylor. Crean wants to maintain his reputation with Hurley more than he needs Taylor.
Acting like a stand-up guy and guiding Taylor through this process to stay at MU will keep Crean's pipline St. Anthony wide open. This is more important to Crean than pulling out the stops for Taylor for next season.
Then again, Crean sometime surprises us. He may try to take his recruting class - he has schlies up the ying yand to hand out
If MU did release the recruits from their scholarships, wouldn't one of the stipulations be no Indiana?

IU is going to be sanctioned by the NCAA. Crean may be a good recruiter, but he is not good enough to convince anyone to go to a "damaged" program knowing they HAVE TO sit out the tourney. He cannot recruit anyone until the NCAA hands down their ruling. No one will touch IU until that is known.
Doubltful the NCAA makes it determination in the next few weeks.

Which also explains Hurley's thoughts on how the LOI fucks the kids. Hurley doesn't hold back and you could almost see the redface through his words to Rosiak in his blog.
